@scribblesscript I’ve always thought this. You could take the yellowface aspect out of it, and it’s still an incredibly insensitive piece of work. No idea how it holds it’s reputation. It’s hardly even one of Robert Holmes’ best stories.

@scribblesscript Talons is a technically well put together and strictly structurally sound story where every single choice is the most racist it could possibly be. God knows how it got made even in the 70s.

@scribblesscript It blew my mind when I realised how bad this story is in this regard, I'd just accepted how I enjoyed the setting as a kid and not thought about the lens of it,how incredibly racist/colonialist it is. A younger fan (by about ten years) called me out on it and I'm glad he did tbh.

@scribblesscript I hated the doctor being racist with the cop it feel such out of character it a shame because I think the story has such a great Atmosphere it weird the doctor who basically all Chinese character except Chang Lee is represented badly like this and in TV movie killed the doctor

@scribblesscript There were so many ways to get around it later in the story when it’s revealed the character is not human too. I’ve seen and Heard and read Doctor Who stories where Doctor Who is disgusted and appalled by someone making a caricature of a human and dressed them down!

@scribblesscript I spent a lot of time wrestling with my feelings about Talons because the production is so good just in terms of what they accomplished and what it looks like. No other story is so dripping in gothic horror tone as this. And then I remembered that there are still better stories
