Anonymity + algorithms amplify rude, dismissive, or patronizing tones that were rarer in face-to-face 1980s life (phone calls, letters, in-person talks had more friction/accountability). • Surveys and anecdotes back the perception: More public rudeness, profanity, and “I know better” attitudes.
