Lots of dirty deleting going on in certain quarters is all I’ll say.

Ol’ Receipt Queen here is trying very hard not to do some Receipt Queening today. Sometimes there are more important things than being seen to be proven right.

My contention isn’t that Burnham will lose the next Labour leadership election btw. I think his time has come. It’s that he isn’t particularly charismatic nor an outstanding communicator (if you value those things in a politician). It’s Andy Burnham!

They say absence makes the heart grow fonder. In this case, Burnham’s absence from the national political scene and his popularity in Greater Manchester seems to have convinced people he’s this great left wing political talent. That’s not what I remember of him. We’ll soon see.

Not even sure he has much better PR skills. That’s just the current received wisdom. Burnham has already lost 2 Labour leadership elections because he was unable to convince sympathetic Labour members. Being out of the national media spotlight has made people forget who he is.

I am a recent member of @TheGreenParty after decades in Labour In my opinion @AndyBurnhamGM has to offer the Greens something substantive for them not to stand So far, he sounds more & more like the same old, same old Labour Party with better PR skills. Not good enough IMO!

The see the Any Chance To Get My Grid on TV Celebrity Leftists are accusing others of being egotistical self-promoters again. ‘Projection’ isn’t just something that happens in a cinema.

This is what The Guardian quotes Burnham saying. It’s so platitudinous it could mean anything. Allows people to project whatever meaning they want onto it without committing Burnham to any actual policy:

The quotes are vague ‘twirling, twirling, twirling towards freedom’ waffle. If he supports PR he could just come out and say it in plain English. The fact he isn’t saying it - or much of anything really - is not a good sign (if you support PR and think Burnham will deliver it).

Andy Burnham has said he will back sweeping changes to the electoral system if he becomes prime minister. The Greater Manchester mayor has previously called for the introduction of proportional representation for UK general elections theguardian.com/politics/2026/…

Not sure why some people are suggesting this could be mischief making from Burnham’s rivals? It is evidently in keeping with his previous politics. Given Reform are his biggest rivals in the Makerfield by-election, it’s entirely plausible he’ll push anti-immigration stuff.

I’d guess the ‘reframing’ will be along the lines of ‘It’s progressive to do anti-immigrant crackdowns because they suppress wages and put pressure on public services’. Setting the working-class against each other rather than putting the blame for scarcity where it lies IMO.

Boro being punished because Southampton cheated is far more of an affront to justice and integrity than Southampton in effect being allowed to cheat them out their potential place in the final.

Ultimately, if I didn’t want to be excluded from a competition, I simply wouldn’t attempt to cheat and then behave like a shit house when caught.

BBC 'journalism'. @JustinOnWeb on BBC Today Programme yesterday said the Afghan hunger crisis is "worsened by aid cuts, by the Taliban government's own policies and by severe drought".
