Welcome to Ireland.... - Your taxi driver from the airport is Nigerian man. - When you arrive at the hotel, you are checked in by a Ukrainian woman. - After settling in you take a walk to Arnotts, but there are 40 people from the Congo outside doing a voodoo ritual because one of their people died while shoplifting. - Later, on the way to an Irish pub, you pass the mosque, the vape shops, the kebab shops and oh so many Turkish barbers. - When you arrive, you are served a terrible pint of Guinness by a middle-aged Brazilian woman. - Afterwards, you want some fish and chips, but the chip shop is owned by a group of men from Afghanistan so you return to the hotel and go to sleep. - The next day you visit the Phoenix Park, but you leave immediately after you are approached by what looks like a gang of Somali pirates. - So you head to the historic GPO, the base of the Irish rebellion, to take some pictures you will cherish forever. Unfortunately it's dole day, so 200 Africans are queueing up outside for their free money. - For your second night you travel to rural Ireland, where you are due to meet Paddy, your Airbnb owner. But it turns out Paddy is actually an Indian man and he owns 12 Airbnb's in this small Irish town. - On day 3 you wake up and travel to the scenic Powerscourt Waterfall, but you are greeted by 500 Pakistanis who are cooking goats and blasting Islamic music. - On the taxi trip back you are driven by a 73-year-old man from Bangladesh who arrived in Ireland 3 weeks ago. His cousin is the Mayor of a rural village in County Cork. - Becoming frustrated with your "Irish trip" you decide to spend the night in, and luckily the Rose of Tralee is live on TV, but the Dublin Rose is a Somali Muslim. - Day 4, you wake up and book a flight to Poland. You will never visit Ireland again.

@greenbeltsal Another story to tell is how farmers rush to help each other, and the general public, when there’s an incident such as farm fire, or cars getting stuck in snow. It’s not just about food.

@Diana_abbs I know of a few, formerly cottage hospitals but renamed community hospitals, but with funding issues the beds are now limited. A former neighbour was admitted after she broke both ankles but wasn't fit enough to return home to stairs etc. For everyone, not just elderly patients.

Long ago, when I was young, there were convalescent homes/hospitals where patients went when they were well enough to be discharged from hospital, leaving beds free, but not yet strong enough to cope on their own at home. This wasn’t such a bad idea…. #socialcare

@ZenMezzer I attended a conference about death (work-related at the time), and it prompted me to write out my funeral arrangements so my offspring won't argue as they have very different tastes. I'm planning on being around for many years but it just seemed practical!

Been to see my Mum in her care home, she gave me a list of the songs she wants playing at her funeral. So that was cheerful. Important, though. She's in pretty good health, so hopefully this won't be soon.

Well, well, well…Sir John Arnott has been involved for years in government infrastructure planning and was behind the Olympics…so was asked why no new reservoirs have been built since 1986. The water companies have blamed the planning system and he has openly said that it was ‘government agencies’ that opposed the building of them as they didn’t think we needed them. We have known about population growth and climate change for 40 years so who in particular was behind the decision not to build the necessary water infrastructure?! Of course we all know who will pay the price for such bad management; #nature and the public!! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Falling Slowly I'm heartbroken to hear of the passing of Glen Hansard. His music has been the soundtrack to my life for as long as I can remember. This was one of the very first pieces I shared here during the Covid pandemic. I remember how nervous I felt posting it. Not long afterwards, I received a message from Glen himself telling me he loved my version. Those few kind words, coming from an artist I admired so deeply, meant more than I can say. They gave me the confidence to keep sharing my music, and they played a significant part in the path that followed. So many evenings were spent lying on the floor of my cottage beside the fire with my dog Nisha, listening to Glen's songs. I still can't quite believe he's gone. This is Falling Slowly from the film Once. Glen and his co-star, Markéta Irglová, won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2008. The world feels quieter today. My heart goes out to his family, his friends, and to everyone whose life was touched by his music. I'll be listening to his songs for the rest of my life.

A deeply troubling read. "Over the past century, England and Wales have lost 98% of wildflower meadows.
