Concerned about environment, nature, climate change and all under those headings. Tired of this world where everyone fights, what happened to peace?

This article says climate change is “believed to have played a role” in the UK's extreme heat this week. As a climate scientist, let me fact-check that. First, climate change is not a religion. No belief is required. It is about evidence. And the evidence has been crystal clear for more than two decades: climate change is making heat waves hotter, longer, more frequent and more dangerous. In fact, science has advanced far beyond saying climate change merely “played a role.” Today, we can quantify how much more likely and how much hotter climate change made a specific event. Here's the bottom line: Climate is changing. Humans are responsible. And we are experiencing the impacts now. That’s the bad news. The good news is that solutions already exist, and the majority of people care - 89%, around the world! But meaningful action depends on helping people understand not just what is happening: we need to know how it affects our lives (this heat wave being example A today) and what we can do about it. That’s the opportunity this reporting missed. bbc.com/news/articles/…

An old friend of mine joined them! So I assume furlough and bennies kept them afloat with no rent needed. They threw raves in the Vale of Health on the other side of the Heath as well 😅

This is what entitlement looks like! 🤬 There are nesting waterbirds on this pond on Hampstead Heath... there are also big 'No Swimming' signs, all being totally ignored! 🤬 Pure selfishness... 😒🤬🤬 (Shared from Instagr*m with permission from 'swansofhampsteadheath')

@TomPMarshall Not at all nice for your neighbour. I've walked through forests where the bags are strewn from tree branches, awful.

@EmFord2015 It is the same with dog walkers who leave bags of dog shit on the right-of-way near my house. They seem to think it’s someone else’s responsibility to take it away. One of them told me the council should collect it. It’s not council land it belongs to my 80-year-old neighbour.

Reading on FB about rubbish left at beauty spots. Woman said bin in the car park was overflowing so no choice but to leave it on the floor. Ummm, which bit of going by car, taking picnic to beauty spot, then going home by car WITH rubbish to dispose of at home flew by her head?

@EmFord2015 Heaven forbid you should have to take a bag for trash and transport it home, don't ya know. Car in front of me set their trash down outside their car. Driver behind me got out, went up to them and handed it back. I laughed. They kept it.

@Florainoxford It will no doubt be lighter to take away as they'll have consumed the contents. A big shout out for the amazing volunteers who kindly remove the litter though.

@SaysHoney @87colB I've read about Japan, the more I read the more I respect its people and would love to visit. Their trains are also precisely on time and even if a minute late, passengers get a personal apology!

@EmFord2015 @87colB There are no public litter bins in Japan, and the nearest approximation to them are recycling g bins in convenience stores. Thee is virtually no public littering, because children are role modelled by adults to take their litter home to dispose of with household waste.

@paulpowlesland No it really isn't, there is an open air lido and 3 swimming ponds on the heath. It's nothing but pure selfishness.

Not defending the people in the video, but scenes like this are an almost inevitable consequence of the destruction of outdoor lidos & the poisoning of rivers across London. It’s madness for a city the size of London to have only one set of wild swimming ponds; conveniently located in one of the wealthiest areas. We should demand a *minimum* of one wild swimming spot in every London borough. The creation of new ponds & wetlands and the cleaning & restoration of existing waterways this would entail would also be fantastic for nature. With a little effort & imagination we can have more than enough waters for Nature & for humans.

Was sitting on the beach in St Anne’s in Lancs yesterday evening after a long cycle ride to Cleveleys and back. Me & him indoors were enjoying sunshine when we spotted this lady volunteering to pick up all the rubbish. Some people really are amazing

@zarahussain999 @RightTrackGB Yasmin Mezran was born in Italy in 1994, her mother is Sheila Comes. Her father is a Libyan/Italian academic, Karim Mezran. Yazmin lists herself as Italian on official records so I doubt she came to the UK in the same manner.

@bookplatypus @Stargaz91393045 That's a memory from the past - my Mum used to make homemade lemonade as a thirst quencher in summer! No BBQs but the very occasional campfire well away from houses, mostly to teach us about survival methods (did our parents expect us to get seriously lost at some stage)!

@Stargaz91393045 @EmFord2015 I can guarentee that on a hot day the only burner in the area will fire up along with bbq and fire pits. Last year a nearby neighbour was burned by an exploding sausage! Different times, my grandparents ate strawberries and drank lemonade in their tiny, inner Derby garden.

This heatwave is unprecedented for May, some say its wonderful, others (me included) say its climate change and not good. Watching bird nest livecams today, the chicks are already suffering from the heat at 10am, how do we tell birds 'get over it, its just a bit of weather'?

@Whowaa As in provide a skip at popular tourist attractions in summer, or no bin at all and drop litter on the ground, to blow away and potentially kill wildlife? You're bordering on the ridiculous to make your fatuous point now.
