Why does nutrition often feel more like choosing an ideology than understanding the science?

The Japanese figured it out thousands of years ago: 腹八分 ('Hara hachi bun me ni isha irazu') "eating until eight-parts full keeps the doctor away." Most Americans still have yet to learn the simple lesson: Eat until you're no longer hungry, not until you're stuffed.

Natural food is not the panacea many think it is...👇🏽 We've heard it over and over again: "Eat natural/whole foods" But the picture is more nuanced Deadly nightshade berries are completely natural. Yet, they'll also kill you. Vaccines and antibiotics are unnatural interventions that have saved hundreds of millions of lives. Wisdom lies in understanding how the food you eat affects your body

Systemic accumulation Here’s the uncomfortable truth: We don’t yet know the full long-term effects. But what we do know isn’t reassuring. - Plastics persist. - Your body doesn’t know how to deal with them. - And exposure keeps rising.

Brain health People with Alzheimer’s were found to have ~10x more plastic particles in brain tissue compared to healthy controls.

2) MICROPLASTICS You’ve heard the term. Most people shrug it off. Here’s the problem: Microplastics don’t just pass through you. They accumulate. And they show up where they absolutely shouldn’t.

Microplastics are EVERYWHERE, but why should we limit our consumption of them? A thread... 🧵

Why does this matter? Phthalates interfere with your endocrine system (the signaling network that controls hormones). Human studies link phthalate exposure to: • Up to 34% lower testosterone • Reduced sperm quality • Reproductive disorders in both men and women And we wonder why fertility rates are low...
