This is where subagents help the main agent. You need one subagent who’s job is to keep improving the control and another who’s job is to keep adding new challengers.
Same for content or sales letters. Main agent controls the overall system and delegates new angles to one subagent while guarding winners to another.
Also, my main agent is instructed to always be pushing back, always criticizing, aiming for excellence and nothing less. This keeps my main agent (Claude) from becoming too sycophantic. It’s instructed to look for perspectives and angles I may be overlooking, not just confirming my hypothesis.
It can get annoying at times because it critiques and pushes back on even my established good ideas, but I’d rather that than publishing something full of confirmation bias and half truths.

How do people prevent their AI setup from optimizing towards a local optimum?
Once it's been going into a certain direction (and that's somewhere in its memory), it'll keep going towards that direction(-ish).
When creating new ads, it's not like it's suddenly going for a COMPLETELY new style/angle/etc. Previous ads batches (+ what's been converting etc) are influencing new batches.

I'm officially coming out of content retirement.
(Is content retirement even a thing 🤔)
Full context:
When I ran Backlinko, I was kind of a reluctant "marketing guru".
Making videos and constantly publishing content was a big reason the brand grew and eventually sold to Semrush. But I never loved being in front of the camera.
So when I started Exploding Topics, I did the complete OPPOSITE.
No videos. No personal brand stuff.
I was the ghost in the machine.
And I LOVED it.
Then I sold that company too.
The first thing I thought of when the deal went through was: "I never have to make another YouTube video again!"
Flash forward to today...
I'm getting the itch to share my ideas again.
After all, I built and sold two companies. That's not super common.
I'm also enjoying making videos for Semrush's YouTube channel. Turns out video is actually fun when you're covering topics you find interesting.
And I'm learning A TON from a side project. So I want to share all the cool stuff I'm figuring out.
So yeah: I'm back. Under my own terms this time.

Last week I got permission to drive again. First time in a year!
Why? A year ago, I blacked out behind the wheel and crashed straight into another car. We had our three kids in the back (our youngest was 2 months old at the time), but thankfully everyone was okay.
Turned out to be a form of epilepsy, so I wasn't allowed to drive for a year.
(Which is super practical with 3 young kids 🙈 My wife drove me pretty much everywhere for a whole year ❤️)
The thing is... Being allowed to drive and feeling safe are two different things. What if it ever happens again?
Hopefully never, but there's no way to be 100% sure.
So yesterday, we picked up our Tesla Model Y with Full Self Drive 🎉
I've followed the technology for years, mainly because I'm a nerd and think it's cool (after all, my business runs on AI from A-Z) 🤓
But after the accident, it stopped being just a fun tech feature.
Sure, I still have to pay attention, but it's amazing how well it drives (better than some humans 😂).
For us, it feels like an extra layer of protection.
Funny how quickly technology can go from "that would be cool" to "I'm really glad this exists."

People in the US have no idea how good they have it. The €55k+ car I just ordered (Tesla Model Y) costs $50k USD incl. tax in the US (that's less than €45k). A €10k+ difference! Thanks, Europe 🫡

There’s no doubt @Tesla FSD V14 Lite is ready to go. After spending a week with it, I’m very impressed by how it has transformed our ownership experience with our HW3 Model Y.
It feels like a new car. It has come to a point where I have no issue taking the HW3 car over my HW4 for a drive. It’s that impressive.
I can’t wait for everyone to experience it.
