Bro the amount of shit I build now is insane. In the past, it will take 24 hours to build a training pipeline for a specific type of model...it always felt like a chore because I know how I want it to be structured, but had to chug out the code. Now Claude does it in 5 mins.

Not gonna lie, the speed is a bit overstimulating lol. I miss the chore of building a pipeline again and again. I always learned something new, plus a lot of my use-cases in grad school were actually novel. I'm sure the hours on data pipelines will now be minutes.

Allows me to focus on the novel/interesting parts of the problem (that claude does not get). Reward-shaping, architectural design decisions, slack inflation for guaranteed grad flow in physics-constrained NNs, curriculum learning schemes

Might jump onto Claude code if voice mode truly works.

I still dig up raw docs for newer concepts that I want to learn deeply. I don't assume gemini is giving me the right information, especially if it is not a coding environment where I can test behavior and outcomes extensively

eduroam is nice and all but, as an academic, what I really wish I had when I travel is the ability to use the gym at the universities I'm visiting. Call it edutone or edugroan, maybe.

These days I choose speed. Learn enough to fly. Have faith in tools, systems, I can’t build it all. But always having a thing I build from first principles keep me sane…a creator cannot solely wield tools…must build them…the day I stop feeling like a creator is the day I die.

IMO it is so hard to learn something entirely new as deeply as you would in a PhD. There’s really not many other environments that select for that. I miss when I’d spend hours proving every single line of a textbook or paper to myself—it HAD to make sense fully to me.

If you explain something to me and I don’t understand, then you don’t understand.

@esaagar I tried years ago to share the data on psychosis, but was accused of misinformation. A recent expert clinician on the HLP confirmed that it’s even more of an issue now. One thing is for sure: you don’t want your kids using cannabis. The “better than alcohol” = stoner logic.

@thediary_keeper I can probably help with this on a part-time contract (maybe for equity).
