Back in Nov, I was invited to one of the Leaders Roundtables at @YGGPlaySummit. The Perspectives in Play report is the output of those sessions. Just finished reading, pretty much one of the sharpest looks at what’s actually working (and not) in Web3 gaming growth. Some key lessons worth sharing: 👉 Most KOLs drive awareness, NOT real users. Shill-first KOLs erode trust, the best ones are simply players and creators who actually love the game + grow with it. 👉 UA must be fun first, Web3 second. Blockchain should enhance the experience, not gate it. Wallet-less onboarding and fiat-friendly flows are must-have. 👉 Transparency ≠ trust. Onchain shows holdings, but NOT intent. Many KOL deals are still opaque. Misaligned token incentives can result in long-term damage. Better vet harder and align smarter. 👉 Guilds are a slept-on UA weapon. In PH / LATAM / India, local guild leaders drive way better onboarding + retention than global KOLs. This shows that trust needs to be local. 👉 Token-first marketing is dangerous game. We have seen KOL rounds result in dumps + brand hits. The better model is to build evangelists, reward trust and play long. The hype era is ending.
