I just listened to an interview with Professor Balarabe Abdullahi of ABU Zaria on the difficult situation university lecturers and professors find themselves in the economy. This and more reiterated my position that there is absolutely no need for creation of more universities and other institutions in Nigeria but rather focus on enhancing and improving the capacities and capabilities of the existing ones. Only God knows how many universities or higher institutions are awaiting creation or under legislative process of the national assembly because most Nigerian politicians believe university or higher institution is the only sustainable development to their constituencies. I pity the university lecturers and especially professors. A profession that was once the most sacred has become acceptable only when the desirable is not available. Up to the time I graduated, just about 8 years ago, lecturing job used to one of the best and respected jobs out there, one that’s reserved for only the best of the bests. I am always of the opinion that quality education is the only panacea to sustainable development. It bridges the gap between underdevelopment and sustainability. And the pathway to quality education is through intentional and deliberate empowerment of the education sector and educators. Our public education system used to be a mockery only at secondary level but now even at university level. A lot of us, even as young as we are, can not enroll our children in the primary or secondary schools we attended. Unfortunately, it’s becoming clear that in the next few years, even the universities we attended will be so poor that we can not enroll our children. This is the most damage done by the political system on any of the sectors. I hope we reflect and tame the already broken river. The future doesn’t look bright for our education and of course our country.

I am ready to defend this statement anywhere anyway Nigerian women actually settle for less than most women of other countries Because find me the most destitute man in Nigeria and I can bet he has a girlfriend
