I often get comments asking why I do not refer to players as "blue team genji" or "crazy raccoon's ana", even though this might be easier for casual viewers to understand. To me, it kills the personality of the match and that isn't the type of video I'm trying to make. I wouldn't enjoy making my videos if I were wiping the players' names off of them. OW Esports already lack personality, especially after the end OWL, and I'm not about to sterilize the little bit of personality left. I feel that is the correct decision in the long run.

You can credit them for learning a lot of lessons from OW first before shipping. Sometimes being second to market using the first mover as a case study works wonders. They still have a lot they didn't learn though or deliberately chose not to implement. There's a lot of interesting decision making overall there where some decisions feel way too casual focused but then some things are the complete opposite like hero bans in ranked at diamond and in game tournament systems. It doesn't have to be mutually exclusive for both to exist simultaneously but it's weird to go in both directions without the playerbase making broad zero sum accusations that you're serving the "other group" at the expense of your own interest - which is basically the OW community in a nutshell. Maybe marvel just needs a bit more time for whining to reach critical mass.

Ngl I'm salty Marvel Rivals has a sick, very user friendly and quick ban phase at diamond and above-- and Overwatch reinvented itself 10 times over before implementing them. Argued personally with a confused Jeff Kaplan on this... Genius creates blind spots.

@Coach_Ocie Most effective doesn’t have to mean optimal, just what you’re most effective on. Ball at the end of OW1 was most optimal, but only Shanghai could play it. So the next most optimal thing was what was most effective for other teams. In bronze, Moira is easiest to get value from

Important thing to learn: Meta doesn't change based upon rank. Meta refers to the "Most Effective Available Tactic". The most effective way to play OW and the most effective compositions are the same for all players of all skill levels. Everyone is playing the same game. In Silver, the most effective way to win is to simply get your entire team to play and adapt like Crazy Raccoon. Is that a reasonable expectation? No. Most effective tactic available? Yes. No, Moira isn't "better" or "meta" in Bronze. You can just get away with playing the hero easier in Bronze. Playing Bastion will just make reaching higher ranks harder because he performs worse. Playing Tracer in really low ranks, (just like in high level play) is very effective. I often hear "But Bronze players don't have mechanics, Tracer is too hard!"... The Bronze Tracer player that learns a little bit more isn't in Bronze anymore. They are Silver now. That explains why there are no good Tracer players in Bronze.

TLDR: Using "Man", "Bro", and "Dude" will make some people uncomfortable. So don't be careless with your usage of the terms and respect others' wishes.

You can say "man", "bro", and "dude" are unisex all you want, but that doesn't change the fact that you might make some people uncomfortable. If someone doesn't fit the flat definition of the word, ask first. The unisex usage of these words has to do with the idea of male as default, and positive connotations surrounding male-centric words. Calling a straight man "sis" or "girl" can be seen as a derogatory, while calling a woman "dude" or "bro" is seen as okay since they're "one of the guys" (one of the good ones). Same deal with calling a mixed gender group of people "guys". It places focus on the men and sees them as the default while women in the group matter less. It's unsurprising that the language evolved this way considering recent history. This is essentially misogyny layered into everyday speech. Does this make you misogynistic for using the terms in a gender neutral way? No, you aren't responsible for the evolution of the English language. What you CAN do is make sure you respect others and what they'd prefer to be called. That takes priority over what you personally see as unisex! Your opinion < Someone's comfort.
