Your periodic reminder that all the actual evidence of school-based, class-level mental health interventions (think: SEL, mindfulness, grit, etc) that we have find that they make students more anxious, depressed, and all around more mentally unwell
Just a friendly reminder that each and every interaction with each and every scholar matters each and every time. We can not afford to miss. #FCMSinspires@CounselorMG2021 does not miss.
I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to further my academic and athletic career at West Virginia University! Thank you to all my coaches, family and teammates who pushed me on this journey! Let’s Go MOUNTAINEERS💛💙
As we return back to school and the nerves and stress set in, remember:

2. Connect first, content will come.
3. Set your expectations high for every student. They will rise to the occasion.
4. You have the best job in the world.
Never underestimate how much your students pay attention to. My childhood toy was “Sleepy bear,” and I probably mentioned it once months ago. Your influence is immense, even if you don’t feel it in the moment.
@MrDanielBuck Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary, over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore. While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping, as if someone gently rapping, rapping upon my chamber door. It’s a visitor, I murmured, …
It’s late at night for me and normally I’m asleep but instead I’m drinking scotch and writing letters to old friends.

My ideal English classroom:
- whole class, classic novels
- lots of discussion
- formal essays
- explicit grammar instruction
- memorizing beautiful passages
- reading out loud in circles
- few if any screens
Tell me I’m wrong

High expectations absolutely key in teaching - students need to know they are going to have to work hard when they arrive for every lesson. Over time, they get used to that level of challenge and most will embrace it.
