Ever wonder about measures of poverty & how they can help us understand the impact of certain policies? Poverty still harms too many of our families, but if you look to the right measure, you can see which policies are working to help. #nmleg #nmpol nmvoices.org/archives/19479

It's far beyond time for the state to start working with key stakeholders to develop a comprehensive plan to give our kids a K-12 education system that respects & uplifts their languages, cultures, & abilities while meeting their needs. #YazzieMartinez #EducationEquity

BREAKING: Today a new motion was filed in the Yazzie/Martinez case, urging the court to order the state to develop a comprehensive action plan to address the systemic failures in the NM education system. nmpovertylaw.org/2024/09/04/pre… #EducationEquity #YazzieMartinez

According to a recent report from @iteptweets, undocumented immigrants in our state paid over 150 million dollars in taxes in 2022! But how does that work? And what can we do to make sure ALL our families get the support they need? #nmpol

I had the great privilege of speaking to other advocates about the cliff effect and the incredible positive impact of benefit programs like SNAP in lifting families out of poverty. Wonderful Summit, thanks @RoadrunnerFdBnk! #nmpol

Yesterday, we hosted the 2024 SNAP Summit. Over 50 groups were represented. We brought these groups together for a day of learning about the importance of SNAP in New Mexico and the need to coordinate each organization’s advocacy efforts. #snapbenefits #newmexico #nutrition

No matter how many layers of middlemen (and bonus tax avoidance!) you put in a private school tuition tax credit program, it's still fundamentally the same as vouchers -- sending public money to private mostly religious schools.

When I was a high school student, I had no idea how to advocate or why I should care about policy. It was truly a privilege to speak with these young people who are already engaged in advocacy & interested in policy to make NM a better place for us all!

3 specifics: 1. Expanding SNAP eligibility would help to address the cliff effect. 2. Kinship Care SNAP would help over 6,000 kids living with grandparents! 3. Increasing the SNAP supplement will improve food security for older adults & those with disabilities. #nmleg #nmpol

Our #nmleg should ensure that TANF & SNAP reach more New Mexico families. Both programs support our kids' health & education & boost local economies. Please contact members of Senate Finance & urge them to support the executive request for TANF & SNAP expansions this session!

We all know that NM still has high rates of poverty, despite our improvements over the last decade. But did you also know that when income support programs are measured, NM's poverty rate improves dramatically?? Check out this fact sheet for more info! nmvoices.org/archives/18615

The opposition talks about the burden of high inflation, but that is another reason why we need #PFML in NM. Folks who have lost their job due to not having #PFML and not being able to work cannot keep up with high living expenses when they have no income! #HB6 #nmleg #nmpol
