We’ve heard about the cuts coming to staff at CBC and Rad-Can. No matter how many times this happens to our industry it never, ever, feels good. Our thoughts are with our colleagues across the country who are dealing with difficult times and insecurity. cbc.ca/news/politics/…

✨A personal thread✨Today is my final day filling in as CBC BC's Legislative reporter for the fall session. It's been a real privilege, and a wild ride, to be representing the public broadcaster during an *incredibly busy* session.

Thanks to everyone who's engaged with my work, and to everyone who supported me and made me feel welcome. I hope you all get some well-deserved rest this holiday season.

Also - I'll be taking some time away from CBC until spring, working with my wonderful partner in the ski industry. Maybe I'll be back in this role someday - and maybe not! But I'll definitely be around the B.C. journalism world, and ideally back at the CBC Victoria shop in May.

NEW - The NDP government is ramming its multi-plex housing legislation through the legislature with its majority. All sections are now passing without further debate, due to time allocation by the NDP. Massive changes to allow 4/6-plexes on single family lots, w/out debate.

So much for Finance Minister Katrine Conroy's claims in her speculation tax press conference today that communities were consulted and supportive. Penticton, added today, blasts the minister for "zero consultation." The minister appears to be fudging (I'm being generous here).

@JohnRustad4BC unveiling the @Conservative_BC climate change plan. Says climate change is "not a crisis" - that media and govt have "overhyped" the impacts of a changing climate. Says he believes CO2 emissions are warming the planet, but isn't the most important issue.

Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke has announced the city will launch a "constitutional challenge" against the province in the neverending policing jurisdiction controversy, now 5+ years old. Comes after the province fired the Surrey Police Service board and took direct oversight.

@OrcaCedarbough @bchydro Their stated reasons for delaying the project are that it's not done yet. FWIW, their comms team gave this response to my initial request about bear relocation plans for this fall - "We have not relocated any bears – and that is not in our plans for next year."

@Emily__Vance @bchydro Question is, if the province is willing to delay the flooding of Site C dam until the end of denning season due to concerns over wildlife then why aren't they willing to delay logging of dens elsewhere in BC for the same reason? #SaveBCBearDens

NEW - @bchydro says they will not start to fill the Site C reservoir this fall as they had been looking into - process will start next fall 2024 instead. The company says work remains on the project's approach channel, spillway gates and powerhouse intake gates.

@bchydro BC Hydro says with winter approaching, the window to begin filling the reservoir safely was closing. Good news for bear advocates, who had been raising concerns about flooding of dens at the start of hibernation season.

Developers can still build single-family homes, but the legislation would mean local governments can no longer exclusively zone neighborhoods for single-family detached lots

NEW - the province is announcing legislation requiring rezoning of single-family lots across many places in B.C. The province's version of "missing middle" If passed, ALL B.C. municipalities would have to allow secondary suites in all single-family/duplex residential zones
