Honestly, there’s no such thing as the “best medical course” or the “most important profession” in healthcare. At the end of the day, every field exists for one purpose, OPTIMAL PATIENT CARE AND MANAGEMENT. Healthcare is teamwork. Just like in football, every player has a role to play. Yes, there are moments when a team can adapt and play without one player, but the ultimate goal remains the same, TO WIN. So maybe it’s time we stop the “best this” and “most important that” debates, and start respecting the value every profession brings to patient care.

So why will the staff shut the gate against the constitutional rights of the EFCC, they are empowered to go into any facilities to make arrest and even raid if need be. Why will the CMAC refuse arrest? Let's stop weeping sentiments and face the reality
Roland Decker 🦉@RolandDecker

Full gist: On May 12, 2026, law enforcement agents (widely reported as EFCC operatives) raided the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH) in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. They arrested Professor Eyo Effiong Ekpe, a Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery, who serves as the hospital's Deputy Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee and is described as Akwa Ibom's only cardiothoracic specialist. What happened (from the post, replies, and video): Agents stormed the hospital premises to arrest the professor and other top consultants. Staff reportedly locked the gates to resist or delay the operation. Operatives used tear gas and fired gunshots (or shotguns), leading to chaos. People, including medical staff, patients, and bystanders, ran for cover amid visible smoke. Doctors and consultants were allegedly brutalized (manhandled/beat up). Phones were smashed in some accounts. The raid disrupted critical areas near the ICU and dialysis units, affecting patient care. The attached video (58 seconds) shows crowds of people (many in medical attire) scattering across grassy areas and roads outside hospital buildings, with plumes of smoke consistent with tear gas visible in the background. You can hear people narrating the scene in distress, calling out that it's happening at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital. Aftermath: The hospital was temporarily shut down. Patients were stranded, raising serious concerns given Nigeria's already severe shortage of specialists. This has sparked outrage online, with fears of a potential doctors' strike or broader protest in the health sector. Reason for the arrest:Unclear from public reports so far. One circulating detail suggests it may relate to a delayed medical report or similar administrative issue, but no official EFCC statement confirms the exact charges yet. It's not linked to the typical "Yahoo" (internet fraud) raids common in Uyo. This highlights ongoing tensions between anti-graft agencies and professionals in Nigeria, especially in critical sectors like healthcare. No major mainstream news outlets have full coverage yet (as it's breaking today)

Real oo, because what kind of consultant "in two countries" do not know that other professional HCWs take Oaths during induction???😂😂😂

@ObaniyiLOJ @Hafaz_the_1st This is exactly how you asslick medical elders when they run f00lish and still cry under the toxic system. She wasnt curious she was clearly mocking the lady celebrating her win. There is no licensed HCW without an oath. If you don't know that you have no business in healthcare

Employers will buy laboratory equipment for millions of naira but they won’t want to pay a licensed med lab scientist 300-400k monthly. 170k for what in this day. I honestly don’t understand the rationale!!!

I remember running multiple clinics without the consultants or them coming late towards the end. Also did countless number of surgeries with minimal supervision. All my trainers except one had private hospitals that competed with their time. They would always come late to morning reviews, They would not come for teaching sessions, they’d come late for mock exams I organised as the chief resident. I kept asking myself why they would not just resign and face their thriving private practice . I guess they all wanted to be professors. They’d argue they don’t have to be there when they have competent senior residents whenever hospital mgmt challenged them. Very bad work place culture in Nigeria.

This is one of the lawlessness of Nigeria. A Consultant who is a full time employee in a Public Hospital: 1) Should not run his own private clinic within working hours. 2) Should not run a hospital, where he admits patients. Such moonlighting is illegal. The anyhowness. 💁🏾

You pay a Consultant Obgyn 1M per month and you want him to do several TAH+BSO, Myomectomies, Csections every month in a busy General hospital 😂😂😂😂 He would do the little he wants and face his private practise. The Medical Officers are the ones that would do majority of the work unfortunately

On arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja from Cairo, at the immigration passport clearance desk, this officer (a woman) looked at my passport and asked … “what is Tochukwu doing with Uthman Isa”? I wanted to get angry but on a 2nd thought, I decided to politely tell her that I am Igbo and a Muslim and from my passport, you could see Nsukka. She felt surprised and admitted this is her first time seeing an Igbo Muslim. Nigeria needs to grow beyond tribe and religion if we must make progress as a country.

From ₦400K to ₦2M: Her Investment Journey Turned Into a Nightmare Mama shares how she was introduced to an investment platform called Electronic Wealth Creation in March last year. She says she first invested ₦400,000 and received ₦800,000 after three weeks, which convinced her to reinvest more. According to her, she later withdrew ₦300,000 from the profit and reinvested ₦500,000. But after three weeks, no return came. She was told the company was working on a new app. This year, the new app was launched, and she says investors were told they must invest again before receiving their previous funds. She then invested ₦2 million more, but three weeks later, there was still no return. 💔 That was when the excuses began. She is now asking for answers and wants her money back. 👉🏿 youtu.be/Mh052aMK5ts
