I first came to work here on 17th October, 1979. Today was my last as a member of The BBC’s staff. It has been a great adventure and it’s not, I hope, all over. I aim to keep making radio and other audio.

Wonderful - and a total surprise - to bump into @RRussellDavies and @EmmaKingsley01 in the garden centre today!! I worked with Emma on our @BBCRadio4 quiz Full Orchestra 20 yrs ago (which was fabulous fun!). And Dai is one of my broadcasting heroes. We all have twins!

@eggsbened I heard about someone who wrote in the inside of all his books “this book was stolen from + his name” . So if he lent a book and the borrower forgot to give it back, that borrower would open it at a later date, be struck by guilt and return forthwith.

Does anyone have a word for the fury/helplessness you feel when going to your shelves in search of your long-owned copy of a book… only to discover that you lent it to someone yonks ago and THEY NEVER RETURNED IT?

Rather a personal tweet - but maybe it's nice to share good news? Just on our way back from celebrating, in wondrous style, the marriage of two of my very favourite people (OK, I'm biased; but also right): @gmisserlis and @amarinswierdsma. At Prussia Cove, of course - where else?

It was such a pleasure having the incomparable Martin Amis talking with @JohnWilson14 for this in 2013. Like all guests he had no idea what archive we’d chosen but engaged with good grace , profound insight and a wealth of wonderful stories.

@GeraldKingsle15 @StevenIsserlis I remember that! I’d watched his masterclasses on the TV and couldn’t believe we had this extraordinary charismatic figure at our dinner table with his wife Maud. After the concert he signed this programme for me and my sister.

@StevenIsserlis He played the Dvorak Concerto at the Wembley Conference Centre in November 1978. As his Manager (Beryl Ball) was away, she asked us to look after him for the day, and our 15 year old cello student daughter Emma forbade us to sit on ‘his’ chair for a week!

French cellist Paul Tortelier b otd 1914. Charismatic, eccentric, quixotic (in looks and character) - and a great cellist and musician. He was such a major presence in our lives during my youth - his masterclasses were televised on BBC2 at primetime! Ah - those were the days...

@JohnWilson14 @BBCRadio4 One of my most favourite series to make. Guests never knew what they would hear and there were many moments of surprise and revelation as they listened to their younger selves with @JohnWilson14 With so many of them now gone I’m glad we have this archive.
