This morning disaster struck again, this time outside the Greek island of Chios, where 8 people drowned, as a direct result of a pushback performed by the Greek Coast Guard. Turkish authorities announced this morning that a total of 19 people was found alive, 18 on the Turkish island of Karaada, and 1 picked up in the sea by a local fisherman, while 8 bodies had been recovered from the sea. sg.gov.tr/izmir-ili-cesm… Survivors said that they had been placed in a life raft by the Greek Coast Guard, and that the raft hit the rocky shore of the island, those who couldn’t swim drowned. Yesterday morning a group of 27 people had arrived on the Greek island of Inousses, and contacted Alarmphone for assistance. Yesterday morning they publish “🆘 A group of 27 people landed on the small island of Inousses, next to Chios. The last information was that local police arrived on scene. Since then we cannot reach them anymore. Local authorities claim to have no information about the group. Where are they?”. As they said, “local police arrived on scene”, and after that all contact with the group was lost, “local authorities claim to have no information”, this is unfortunately not unusual, and usually end up as a pushback, this time the group paid the ultimate price, 8 people died, killed by the illegal actions of the Greek authorities. According to official arrival numbers, no people were officially registered as arrived on Chios yesterday. Several groups have lately been pushed back from this area, last week we published about a group who arrived on the neighboring island, Vatos, who was kidnapped and pushed back in a life raft, they also ended up on Karaada, perhaps lucky, non of them drowned. aegeanboatreport.com/2024/07/07/nin… Most likely these two pushbacks was performed by the same people, it follows the same pattern, unfortunately in this case, there is no footage available from their presence on Inousses. How many more men, women and children must be killed by Greek authorities before the European Commission takes action?
