Can we please take a moment to discuss “The Shakedown”?
It is possibly one of the best films to come out of South Africa in a long time. The plot is excellent, the characters are so well crafted and the script is hilarious. It’s like a local version of Snatch, mixed with Lucky Number Slevin, Layer Cake, Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels and a little touch of Fargo. And it is so flipping South African. It is the most chaos but also the most fun.
Some of my favourite things (that won’t give away spoilers):
I am in love with @CarlBeukes.
@EmmanuelCastis was bladdy brilliant.
Julia Anastasopoulos IS Diamond Status.
“Stomfed me harder than Seabiscuit” killed me.
Cape Town is like a whole other character in this film.
Those flipping dolls. I actually can’t.
“No man, you’re breaking all my bones, my bru,” had me crying.
The truth will set you free! DEAD!
Also, handwritten or typed?
And… getting hit in the face by “Antonio”. WTAF.
I feel attacked by the “point system”.
I haven’t laughed out loud while watching a film in a long time.
