It's my birthday, and I can't think of a better present than breaking ground on new student housing in the Tenderloin! Today we celebrated the official ground breaking of the Academic Village project by UC Law, which will add nearly 300 beds to the campus. Once complete, we will have nearly 1000 beds for students to live, study, and work in the neighborhood. This project is a major endeavor from UC law, and is employing hundreds of construction jobs. The housing once complete will bring students from all over to subsidize our local economy. There is no better representation of building housing being the key to our downtown revitalization. I will be working on legislation to help finance the Academic Village this year, and bring the project to completion.
