You can't use foreign cards freely with local merchants, but in all other African countries I travel to, I can use my cards everywhere. My GTBank Naira card still doesn't work in Ghana and Togo. I don't know how this is an advancement. I didn't have access to my Nigerian bank account for two years when I didn't have a local phone number and NIN, and it was Hell whenever I visited. The banking system works for local residents and Nigerians who have managed to open local accounts, but it is Hell on Earth for outsiders. I do not have the same problems elsewhere. Ethiopia is the only example you gave correctly, as it is still largely backward and isolated like Nigeria. I don't see Nigeria's isolation as an advancement.

Countries and the time it takes to receive domestic transfers: Ethiopia – 2 days South Africa – 2 days Angola – 2 days Sudan – 4 days Nigeria – 20 seconds Nigeria has the most advanced banking systems in Africa. Truly the Giant of Africa!
