Signal # 2: OP says: “100% (not 60% or 80%) of React + Chakra UI frontend code over the last 4 months was written by Claude. More alarming: a full Okta SSO overhaul was done in 4 days, which would earlier take 2 months. “Claude caught, developed, backtracked, tested many things I did not even know were security holes.” INVESTOR IMPLICATION: TCS Chairman said AI cannot be trusted for complex work like security vulnerabilities. But in reality, that “complexity ceiling” is rising with every passing day. OP says the company’s rationale is: “If this restructuring does not pay off in 6 months, we can again hire developers who are available a dime a dozen in Bangalore with oversupply.” c. Signal # 3: Most Important Signal: A commenter said: “Just because a company can build 3x more products or ship features at 3x faster speed does not mean there are 3x more customers waiting to buy them. Productivity can increase much faster than demand.” Another commenter said: “Earlier the constraint was on production. Now the constraint is on consumption. Even if we could produce what we want, is there a market to consume it?” INVESTOR IMPLICATION: “AI will expand demand for IT services (expand total addressable market or TAM)” – this was the original bull thesis for IT stocks. The reality is the opposite of it. Clients are using AI to cut their costs of production (IT vendor contracts), and not increase sales as there is no demand elasticity. ENDPIECE: What is Your Exit Thesis? Question for retail IT investors: What is your exit strategy? Are you hoping that FIIs will start buying “too cheap” Indian IT at some point? I don't think anybody really grasps how desperate this situation is. University professors are now saying they are unable to teach history because reading long books and passages is how a person learns history. College kids are incapable of reading more than a few pages. Some classes don't assign any reading at all now, only lectures. There is an assumption among the people managing this decline that reading is just a way of receiving information. It isn't. Proper reading is how we build the mental muscle to synthesize ideas and evaluate them. If the catastrophic decline in reading and literacy is not addressed now, we risk losing everything. Western civilization cannot survive the death of reading because it was built by people with the kind of cognitive depth that a culture of deep reading brings: Complex reasoning, extended internal dialogue, the capacity to hold opposing ideas in tension. When they lose their jobs faster than the economy can absorb them, they stop spending. Consumer demand falls. Companies respond by cutting costs — which means automating more workers — which means less spending — which means more falling demand — which means more automation. The loop has no natural exit. The researchers tested every proposed solution. Universal basic income. Capital income taxes. Worker equity participation. Upskilling programs. Corporate coordination agreements. Every single one failed in the model. The only intervention that worked: a Pigouvian automation tax — a per-task levy charged every time a company replaces a human with AI, forcing them to price in the demand they are destroying before they pull the trigger. No government has implemented this. No major economy is seriously discussing it. Meanwhile the numbers are already tracking the curve. 100,000 tech workers laid off in 2025. 92,000 more in the first months of 2026. Jack Dorsey fired half of Block's workforce and said publicly: "Within the next year, the majority of companies will reach the same conclusion." Nobody is doing anything wrong. My opinion on the whole tech sovereignty debate is, one can build a Tata Safari or a Maruti out of frugal engineering, but building a frontier model to our needs, a Ferrari, does require serious money on the table. India mainstream mindset of trying to find theist frugal option is going to backfire on us spectacularly. The globalisation dividend is dead. Middle powers have no option but to spend the big ₹₹. Maybe not on the US Big Tech scale but definitely not on the $250-300 million scale either. It should be an order of magnitude higher. And as someone couple of days back mentioned, sovereign capabilities should be backed by sovereign capital. With US closing in on the tech denial, Indian frontier AI talent in the segment will find it difficult to work there. But to make them look back at India than other countries, we need to place the right incentives on the table. I’m a firm believer of the maxim that a small bunch of really smart people can run circles around a team of large number of average engineers being thrown at the problem given the same incentives and resources. Team Sarvam just showed the top and bottom limits of what a small bunch of smart people can do with very frugal resources. Bring more talent. Make redundancy of efforts and provide Indian level abundance of resources and comp. Indian tech should look at global markets competing with the Big boys of Silicon Valley on a whole bunch of applications to corner a slice of the pie to make it commercially viable over the long term and bring private capital. Play for value addition and tech moat not for cost arbitrage. I hope we learn to think and invest bigger.
