In 1988, Hargeisa was bombed by aircraft belonging to the national government and Somali civilians were massacred. As a result we lost our brothers in Somaliland. If a similar event were to happen in 2026 it could lead to losing our brothers in the South West.

Somali hate has become so normal online that people barely notice it anymore. This kind of visit does not feel random. It looks like it is done on purpose to damage Somali businesses especially restaurants in places like Europe and North America. We have seen the same thing happen before with some YouTubers who targeted Indian restaurants. Now we have English speaking creators, Indian ones, and lately even a Spanish guy pushing this negativity to audiences in South America. It is time for the Somali government to take this seriously. They should stop allowing anyone to film freely for commercial purposes. Just like many other countries do China, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt, for example Somalia could require filming permits from the Ministry of Information, Culture, security or Tourism. They could check who the creator is and what kind of content they are planning to make. And before the person leaves the country, officials could review the footage and remove anything that unfairly harms the country’s image. On one side, you have the US President calling Somalia one of the worst countries in the world. On the other side, these YouTubers are going there and reinforcing exactly the same message to their millions of viewers. The real question is: Why are Somali people and government officials in Mogadishu still allowing this to happen so easily?

Any attack on Baidoa or South West State territory will be met with an appropriately severe military response. I urge president Hassan Sheikh to use the remainder of his short time in office to not spill Somali blood but help find a solution for a credible election process.

The threat of escalating politically motivated violence in South West State is troubling. There are still political solutions if the federal government is serious about honest dialogue on elections. The potential innocent victims of the current violent strategy are concerning.

من يتولّى الحكم اليوم في الأقاليم الصومالية وفي الصومال عمومًا هم امتداد لعملاء نظام مخابرات منغستو،و يكونون نتاج للحركات المعارضة التي دعمتها أجهزته في ثمانينات القرن الماضي. لان الوطنيين (الحكومة الصومالية و أتباعها) خسروا الحرب الاهلية فى الصومال ١٩٩١ ورغم ذلك، شهدت الصومال محاولة وطنية جادّة مع مؤتمر عرتا عام 2000، لعودة الوطنيين إلى الحكم و صلح عرتا الذي أنهى الحرب الأهلية فى عام ٢٠٠٠، وأسفر عن تشكيل أول حكومة وُصفت بالوطنية بقيادة عبد القاسم صلاد حسن الرئيس وعلي خليف غلير رئيس وزراء. الرئيس عبد القاسم صلاد كان وزير الإعلام سابق فى حكومة سياد برى و كان زوج أخت سياد برى. غير أن هذه التجربة لم تستمر، بسبب اولا غياب جيش وطنى قوي و ثانيا تداعيات أحداث 2001 و ثالثا دكتور على خليف غلير كان من منطقة سول و الذين حظرت بريطانيا وصولهم لحكم الصومال او حتى عمل فى مناصب و وظائف الحكومية. لاحقًا، برزت تجربة المحاكم الإسلامية، لكنها لم تدم طويلًا نتيجة غزو العسكري الإثيوبي فى عام ٢٠٠٧. ثم جاءت مرحلة الرئيس محمد عبد الله فرماجو فى عام ٢٠١٧ والتي اعتبرها الجميع محاولة جديدة لإعادة بناء الدولة الوطنية، إلا أنها واجهت تحديات وضغوطًا إقليمية، من بينها خلافات مع الإمارات و التى كانت وراء سقوط حكومته. اخيرا إن الوضع في الصومال لن يشهد تغييرًا حقيقيًا ما لم يتم الحدّ من وصول شخصيات مرتبطة بتاريخ الحركات المسلحة والمعارضة( RRA, SDF ,SNM, USC ,SSDF ) إلى المناصب العليا، مثل الرئاسة ورئاسة الوزراء، باعتبار أن ذلك يُعد أحد العوائق أمام الاستقرار السياسي.
