@LauraKWhite @CUAnschutz I'll also add that I think many people are advocating for increased grad student stipends and postdoc pay scales. But there are major consequences similar to the idea of increasing minimum wages.

@LauraKWhite @CUAnschutz I also think the amount of shootings and violence that has been increasingly happening over the last decade has a lot to do with making sure campus police services are fully operational.

@LauraKWhite @CUAnschutz Looks like the difference is mostly something in the operating expense section. Not sure what that is so it's hard to have an opinion. However, I also have used the after hours police escorts on many occasions and have been very glad they were there.

@keithegiles My favorite theory is that it's the sequel to Charlie and the chocolate factory... 🤯 same world where every which way elevators exist. Problem solved.

Laxman Gangwani: SMN knockdown causes dsDNA breaks?! And activation of DNA damage response pathways. Implications for high sensitivity of terminally differentiated motor neurons to SMN loss. #annualsmaconference #CureSMA

A great session at #annualsmaconference. Reduced mitochondrial transport in SMA motor neurons. Wonder if there's a link there to translation defects at the ER-mito connections? #curesma

@guo_lab @JMTali I tend to agree with that...but just maaaaybeee we can outsmart the cells?

Thanks so much for the opportunity to work on such an important problem. Does subcellular RNA localization become disrupted in SMA? If so, does this contribute to motor neuron disfunction? Hopefully these experiments will help answer these questions.

Figuring out where RNAs are within cells and quantifying them can be tricky. Improved methods are being continuously developed to meet this challenge. Check out this review I wrote that summarizes classical and new techniques to study RNA localization. bit.ly/2LkO2BV

What Suja and I are wanting to learn more about is how universities get the word out about how they support the mental health of their staff at all levels. As a postdoc, it seems like gaining awareness of these services is not as straight forward as when I was a grad student.
Sujatha Jagannathan@RNA_biologist

Does your university/school/department have a handout on mental health services that is given to all trainees? If so, could I see a sample? Please RT.
