Engineering Safety: Building safer construction sites begins with building safer professionals. The Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK), with support from Lloyd’s Register Foundation (LRF), continues to spearhead a transformative programme aimed at strengthening safety culture within Kenya’s construction industry. The initiative focuses on equipping engineering students, practitioners, and construction workers with practical safety knowledge and skills through curriculum development, industry short courses, construction site monitoring tools, and policy reforms designed to enhance compliance and reduce workplace accidents. @EngineersBoard convened a finalization workshop bringing together stakeholders from academia, industry, and regulatory institutions, with support from DOSH, to streamline and finalize 11 identified industry short courses and advance the development of safety policy frameworks for the construction sector. Since the launch of the programme, key milestones achieved include nationwide stakeholder surveys, establishment of technical working groups, strategic engagements with industry regulators, curriculum development for engineering students, and the design of monitoring tools to strengthen safety compliance on construction sites. Through collaboration, innovation, and capacity building, EBK remains committed to fostering a proactive safety culture and supporting safer infrastructure development across Kenya’s engineering value chain. #CapacityBuildingKe #EngineeringSafety

Representing the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Eldoret, Prof. Wilson Ng’etich, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration & Finance), observed that universities are operating in an increasingly competitive and globalized environment where graduates are expected to compete effectively at both regional and international levels. He noted that institutions that fail to align their programmes with internationally recognized standards risk producing graduates whose qualifications may not receive global recognition. Prof. Ng’etich further highlighted that successful implementation of OBE requires comprehensive institutional support, including faculty capacity development, continuous curriculum review, investment in laboratories and infrastructure, improved teaching and assessment methods, strong quality assurance systems, industry collaboration, adequate learning resources, and administrative support. He further urged universities to strengthen collaboration and partnerships instead of working in isolation. #EngineeringStandardsKe #JourneyToWashingtonAccordUpdates

This week the @EAC_KENYA, a Committee established by the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) pursuant to Section 8 of the Engineers Act, 2011, conducted an Outcome-Based Education (OBE) training workshop for engineering lecturers and university staff drawn from universities within the Rift Valley region. The universities represented included the host institution, University of Eldoret (@UoE_Main), @MoiUniKenya, @egertonunikenya and @MMUST_Kenya. The training forms part of Kenya’s broader efforts to attain Full Signatory Status to the Washington Accord by 2029, following the country’s achievement of Provisional Status in June 2025. The objective can only be achieved through the systematic and institution-wide adoption of Outcome-Based Education in engineering programmes across the country. Speaking during the workshop, @EngineersBoard Ag. Registrar/CEO, Eng. Grace Onyango, noted that the training seeks to strengthen the capacity of engineering lecturers and university staff to implement Washington Accord-aligned Outcome-Based Education standards and equip with practical skills in developing OBE-aligned curricula, course learning outcomes and assessment tools. She further noted that the programme is aimed at promoting student-centered and active learning approaches, strengthening institutional capacity for continuous quality improvement through proper documentation and evidence generation, and supporting a smooth transition of all recognized engineering programmes to OBE. She emphasized that Outcome-Based Education represents a fundamental shift in engineering education and stated that Kenya’s journey towards Full Washington Accord Signatory Status by 2029 will largely depend on effective implementation at the institutional level. #EngineeringStandardsKe #JourneyToWashingtonAccordStatus

Promoting regional and global synergy in engineering remains essential in addressing shared challenges such as infrastructure deficits, energy access, and climate resilience. A panel session on this theme emphasized the need to move beyond discussions and commitments by prioritizing implementation and delivering measurable engineering outcomes. Moderated by Eng. Anthony Okere - Director, Compliance and Enforcement (@EngineersBoard). The session featured Prof. Robert Mudida of CBK, Ms. Olive Muumbo of Oceans Centre Kenya, Eng. Gabriel Jabongo - President @ACEK1968, Eng. Refilwe Buthelezi, President of the Federation of African Engineering Organizations (@faeo_ng), and Prof. Eng. Henry Mwanaki Alinaitwe, Chairman of the Uganda Engineers Registration Board. The panel highlighted that regional collaboration, particularly within the East African Community through mutual recognition agreements, is enhancing the mobility of engineers, strengthening the profession, and supporting broader goals such as the African Continental Free Trade Area. From a blue economy perspective, Kenya’s strength lies in translating its strategic positioning into practical engineering outcomes. #EPC2026 #BlueprintForProsperity #BlueEconomyKe #EngineeringSustainabilityKe

#EPC2026 The Blue Economy continues to emerge as a key investment frontier, offering opportunities to deliver infrastructure that is economically viable, environmentally sustainable, and socially inclusive. During a plenary session on the Investment Case for Sustainable Financing of Blue Economy Projects, it was emphasized that realizing this potential requires more than ambition, it demands strong project preparation, innovative and blended financing models, effective Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) and a supportive policy environment. The discussion, moderated by Eng. Peter Wanday, featured insights from Eng. Peace Oduok of the PPP Directorate at the National Treasury, Ms. Lydia Ngugi, an international maritime lawyer and Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and Mr. Dave Okech of Aquarech, highlighting the critical role of collaboration in unlocking sustainable blue economy investments. #EPC2026 #BlueprintForProsperity #BlueEconomyKe #EngineeringSustainabilityKe
