Scotland runs a massive budget deficit. Among biggest in Europe. Thanks to the Union, Westminster covers it. An independent Scotland would have to borrow to cover that deficit. A new country with a new currency and no track record of being a reliable borrower. It would be tough enough to borrow to cover the deficit. You’d have no ability to borrow for huge infrastructure projects too.
