To clarify re Burnham (re 5 Live interview earlier): He remains Mayor of Gtr Man until/if he is elected MP for Makerfield. At that point he would legally forfeit his mayoral position and a GM Mayoral by-election process begins. If he loses in Makerfield he could continue as mayor

@GarrethAspinall I don’t understand what this awful thing that Starmer has done is. He’s been hamstrung by his own party, opposition and at worst, he’s a middle manager. You’d think he was atila the hun or worse.

How anyone could read the account, the factual and documented account, of the abuse suffered by Abi Lyle and declare the perpatrator a “bad boy” is part of the problem.
Or is it the entire problem?
An independent inquiry is needed.

Yards have so many kids helping out, hanging around them. Makes them vulnerable to grooming.

If there was any doubt, the PSNI should have been called ... not sure how much good it would have done.

@mgtruth We were incredibly impressed by Dr Melia's report. The move forward from it needs to be just as impressive. We agree a public enquiry is necessary but so often we are simply involved in learning processes where noone seems to have powers to hold anyone to account for actions

Too many enquiries make recommendations that are never implemented.
Like mandatory reporting. Every enquiry into sexual abuse has recommended it as a protection for children & adults. Still not implemented.
