@CompetitionProf I don’t think this argument stands very far. E.g. A victim may be very interested in getting a lawyer who dedicated their life to offenders. They know indeed exactly the a) procedural hurdles and b) how to overcome them when requesting additional piece of investigation.

Markets (4): clients tend to avoid picking a lawyer whose career has been built on the other side.

With all the respect I have for @zingales I think the statement does not reflect the truth. I say this bases on facts, law and market practices that I have been told of. Facts (1): economic experts or consultancies do work on both sides. U dont need to look too far for examples

@toridykes There has also been a lot of PhD scandals over the lats 3-4 years in Spain : See e.g. bit.ly/2TN27Mc I don't think it is purely German - but Spain research standards (and citation standards) are often fairly low, which does not help.

Question inspired by a conversation I just had: is it in my head, or are there way more politician PhD scandals (e.g., X politician was found to have plagiarized their dissertation) in DE than in the US/elsewhere? If this is true, why is this more of a German phenomenon?
