@TheTacticalBrit @ItsGamerDoc I write windows software but I don’t work in this area, although it fascinates me. Why DMA is permitted to write to non authorised memory locations in 2026 defeats me. I know it’s because of legacy device support but perhaps it’s time to switch this off.

TLDR. Keep up the good work @ItsGamerDoc and co. My hope is Microsoft's new found exposure to issues in Call of Duty will accelerate more progress and more ways for developers and hardware vendors to combat cheaters more aggressively. Or windows itself steps up.

There's been a lot of tech illiteracy on this today. But if you are compromising your own hardware to cheat in a video game, quite frankly, I couldn't care if they made your PC remotely detonate.

Does Vanguard physically damage hardware? No. Does this impact hardware or software in any ways unrelated to Riot’s games? No. The IOMMU security protection does not impact hardware, and would only impact the ability of players using DMA cheat devices to play our games. Are normal players affected? Players not using DMA cheat hardware are unaffected. Why target DMA cheats? DMA-based cheats are among the most sophisticated forms of cheating because they attempt to bypass traditional software detection by accessing memory directly through external hardware. I’m affected by this. How do I fix it? To continue cheating in other titles with this device, you may simply disable IOMMU in BIOS in the same place that you enabled it. Of course, you still won’t be able to play our games with these cheat devices enabled. Why did Riot joke about “bricking” PCs? We didn’t. The “paperweight” comment was about VALORANT cheat devices that no longer work in VALORANT. No hardware is being damaged and no other functionalities are impacted.

@JGODYT This is hilarious. I said this the other day. Suddenly I was inundated with people complaining that Riot had wrecked hardware and would be sued. Not completely sure but I think a lot of people cheat.

AC: Vanguard (VGK)
Today’s Vanguard anti-cheat update blocked the majority of DMA firmwares using SATA/NVMe.
VGK suddenly triggered an IOMMU restart warning in-game, after which the DMA firmware becomes completely unusable, even without the game running or after uninstalling Vanguard. Only fix is a full OS reinstall.
It’s using IOMMU to create read blocks, which permanently breaks the majority of almost all SATA/NVMe firmwares once triggered.
Even the advanced H2-board got affected.

What a ridiculous thing to say. I write software for a living and lead a team of developers by the way. If you flash a customised firmware onto a NVMe controller that’s designed to write to memory outside its range for the purposes of cheating then you deserve what happens.
Anyway it’s not permanent damage. Stop and think for one second that the reason this happens is that the hack of the controller firmware is a bit flaky and can’t cope with the security check.

This is hilarious to be honest. An IOMMU check ensures the device only has direct access to the memory it is authorised to access. The rogue firmware obviously can’t operate like that and the side effect is that the firmware breaks. Standard nvme firmware (pre cheat applied) works fine as it doesn’t access valorant memory locations.

People acting like we’re still in 2023 when it comes to COD HQ. All past games are just now separate installs that you happen to be able to launch into from COD HQ. COD HQ will just update to the updated engine with MW4 when it launches. Idk why people thought it was going away.

You’re having a laugh. It reused maps from 2009, used the same weapons as we’d already levelled up and had one of the shortest campaigns I’ve ever played.
They must have been super embarrassed charging us $70 for it. The general opinion of the gaming community was that it was a DLC. We were paying for them to put back movement which they’d taken away and then called it new…

@ModernWarzone Is it really possible to play any game for like 8-12 hours a day and not get bored? Every games longevity comes down to casual players in the end.
I love Arc Raiders but I’ve really only just started playing. I’m finding it hard though as I only have level 1 stuff.

@TheGhostOfHope Omnimovement was created for the CDL imho. It was telling how quickly side sliding kicked in as soon as the new season launched. I’m pretty sure they had this movement mechanic given to them well in advance of the BO7 launch.

It's crazy how so many people equate "Omnimovement" with slide spam/wall jumps or anything of the sort. Omnimovement by definition is the act of being able to sprint and move in any direction. I personally would love to see a version of it for Modern Warfare 4 that has sprinting any direction but forwards/backwards slide/dive only to balance things out. I'm not sure I could play a COD without omnimovement now lol.

I don’t advise you do anything other than projection. I’m assuming you aren’t mirroring as that’s mad as it introduces input lag.
If you have a 5090, you’d be limiting fps at 4k if you used the 4k x at its maximum pass through rate, which is believe is 144 hz. Your stream won’t care but you might.
In addition you can’t change both resolution and fps unless you’re projecting. So the 4k x either uses the same res as your game or the same fps but different res.

@TheTacticalBrit @ControlDec BO7 is a great game at the moment. Both Black Ops Royale and Warzone are super fun. They just need to put more work into the map rotation for BR as Avalon has been built for Black Ops Royale and it doesn’t sit right without wing suits etc.

There's a brand association with BO7 that despite the game being in a good place has a very negative association.
They need to rid themselves of BO7 and tie to MW4 fast.

Looks like Battle royale games are getting a resurgence into the gaming scene again
Apex legends and Pub G getting huge spikes in players and no doubt warzone will be having the same thing happening ( hard to track as no one uses stream )
