Sometimes government persecution against Christians is very real. My friend, pastor Mark Hilbelink, and Sunrise Community Church here in Austin are being sued by Texas AG Ken Paxton because of their ministry to unhoused folks. Where are all the conservative religious liberty advocates? Why aren’t they condemning this targeted harassment against a church trying to live out the call of Christ? @Brcremer This comes in handy. Too often worldly, power-seeking church leaders will refer to "Biblical values" but they do NOT mean Christ's values. They mean the things Jesus taught against.

Notice how it’s always “vote according to Biblical values!” until it comes to welcoming the immigrant, helping the poor, feeding the hungry, bringing healthcare to the sick, forgiving debts, caring for our planet, laying down our swords, or loving our neighbors.

If it isn’t good news for the poor, it doesn’t have anything to do with the gospel of Jesus.

May our t’shuvah on Yom Kippur 5785 plant the seeds of freedom, equality, and a thriving future for all.
