After a hiatus, EQiSpace is back. We’ve been working on a policy-research piece examining a growing but largely invisible issue in Canada: labour-market exile—where experienced professionals are pushed out, sidelined, or excluded from employment despite having valuable skills. This is not just a workforce issue. It is a productivity, governance, and economic efficiency challenge. A significant number of skilled professionals remain underutilized or detached from the labour market, often following workplace conflict, reputational harm, or failed re-entry. The result is lost human capital and weakened decision-making across sectors. Our upcoming piece will explore: • how labour-market exile operates (including “hidden” forms outside official data) • why existing systems fail to reintegrate high-skill professionals • practical, evidence-based pathways to bring this talent back into meaningful work The objective is straightforward: recover underutilized talent and strengthen organizational performance. More to come shortly. #LabourMarketExile #HumanCapital #WorkplaceCulture #Governance #PublicPolicy

This racist imposter syndrome dynamic plays out in so many workplaces - especially against Black and nonwhite professionals. We’re tired too. If you can’t change racist organizations from within, then build antiracist workplaces from the ground-up. #HR #DEI #RacialEquity

Teaching my first class this term, I dealt with a Dutch white woman student whose disrespect I was forced to tolerate for months. This person would roll her eyes at me in every class, gossip about me in Dutch, make comments about my face and hair, and question my qualifications.

30% of Canadians aged 18 to 64 likely in poverty according to a two-item + material deprivation threshold. Dovetails with our concern for discouraged workers & others who are marginally attached to the workforce or under-utilized in the labour market. #HR #DEI #MDI #MBM #LFS

This dovetails with the #CAF's recruitment & retention problems. Canadians won't join a toxic environment resistant to change, but they will join servant leaders who can foster a culture of care. #EQiSpace can help with that. #HR #DEI #DND #CdnPoli #Sexism #Racism #Equity

As we move forward, we know we'll come under attack. So if you get DM'ed by haters warning you off us, please ask them the following question: What role did your network play in targeting a Black professional who stood with #EQiSpace? #HR #DEI #Canada

"How prevalent is blacklisting...& what are the social, economic, & professional consequences for people on these blacklists?" #HR #DEI #Blacklist #Racism #Equity #EQiSpace
Kareem Sadiq@KareemSadiq00

Blacklisting professionals who stand for their rights & the rights of others is nothing new. The mechanics remain hidden. #CdnMedia could do a better job of exposing the tools of the trade & the people who create the lists. BIPoC pay a disproportionate price. #CBC #CdnPoli

3/3 Sole-source contracting isn’t a problem if justified & fairly allocated to a range of competent providers. Sole-sourcing uniquely to favoured insiders is unethical & unfair to those who qualify on merit, but aren't connected to networks of influence. That needs to change.

2/3 Sole-source contacts are ok when justified; the problem is repetitively giving contracts to favoured contacts. If the govt moves to restrict sole-source procurement, it could paradoxically further limit access to contracts from qualified Canadians traditionally excluded.

1/3 Nepotism, cronyism, & a culture of unaccountability allow for policies to be flouted. Sole-source contracts are ok if justified; the problem is repetitively giving contracts to favoured contacts. The issue is FAIRNESS in contracting. #Procurement #AG #CdnPoli #CdnMedia
