Each year, on his birthday, we raise a memorial toast to Tolkien. As January 3, 2026 fades beyond the Western Seas, into the Uttermost West—where there is more than memory—let us proclaim once more: THE PROFESSOR!

@Shawn_Farash @RealDonKeith I've heard that this isn't just the best Trump impersonation, but the best impersonation period. At least thats what they tell me, and frankly I have to believe what they're telling me. You know some people are saying it's the best - or you might even say the greatest imperso..

@JosephLoconte Outstanding! Sounds to be a perfect house, whether you like food or sleep or story-telling or singing, or just sitting and thinking best, or a pleasant mixture of them all. Merely to be there will be a cure for weariness, fear, and sadness!

#Rivendell: College students and young professionals in New York City need a place to learn about the classical-Christian tradition. They need a safe haven to explore life's biggest questions. These are the aims of the Rivendell Center: rivendellcenternyc.org

Doing a lot of recording now, but on a quick break I enjoyed visiting the dolmen near the Welsh border which I gather inspired CS Lewis for the stone table in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe…

Where now the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing? Where is the helm and the hauberk, and the bright hair flowing? Where is the hand on the harp-string, and the red fire glowing? Where is the spring and the harvest and the tall corn growing? They have passed like rain on the mountain, like a wind on the meadow; The days have gone down in the West, behind the hills into shadow.

For your answer: as it is often said, simply 'Follow the money...' & as the last mite of virgin tender falls from the tattered pocket, spins on it's edge, and rolls down the long ages, you can hear the same song repeated in hypnotizing, gyroscopic precession...until it comes to rest on the back of a beast. She is in for a ride! They are just playing an old song on vast orchestra. Its easy to spot the tune if you know the old songs... but most of the audience focuses on one instrument or movement & asks why is this song so horribly orchestrated. Its not - the audience just doesn't know where the conductor is going or what came before. A hybrid wedding march celebrating her divine sons - planned to be divine overlords over the sons of men - which they have hated since it all began.

Me dear ol' mum (not because she was crazy) but due to the general nonsense going on in the media expressed concern about the game. I said fine, mom sit down with me and we'll read thru the rule book so I can show you its not evil. I showed her the table of contents. (1979 DMG) I turned to the section on climate & ecology, or some other mundane text & started reading out loud... after about 3 minutes she said, "ok, ok, stop... who on earth would think this is evil?" I said, "I dunno, probably people who can't read?"

Government leaders, including the President, may sometimes mislead the public or media without legal repercussions, as certain contexts like national security or investigations provide legal protections. These allowances stem from constitutional authority, statutes, or free speech principles, though ethical and political consequences may still apply. Federal Criminal Investigations Involving Witnesses or Evidence: Scenario: Government officials, such as FBI or DOJ leaders, may mislead the public or media about the status of witnesses or evidence in a federal criminal investigation to protect the investigation’s integrity or witness safety. Legal Basis: The Executive Branch has broad authority to manage federal investigations under statutes like 28 U.S.C. § 509 (DOJ functions). Misleading statements are legally permissible if they prevent compromising ongoing investigations, protect witness identities, or avoid tipping off suspects, as long as they don’t involve perjury, obstruction of justice (18 U.S.C. § 1503), or false statements to Congress (18 U.S.C. § 1001). Courts often defer to the government’s need to maintain investigative secrecy, absent clear abuse. Example: An FBI director publicly stating “no witnesses have come forward” in a high-profile case, despite having a cooperating witness, to prevent retaliation or evidence tampering. For instance, during the investigation of a major organized crime figure, officials might deny the existence of a key informant to ensure their safety and avoid alerting suspects. National Security: Scenario: Officials may mislead to protect classified military or intelligence operations. Legal Basis: Article II and the National Security Act of 1947 allow safeguarding sensitive information. Example: Denying covert CIA drone strikes to maintain operational secrecy. Executive Privilege: Scenario: The President may mislead about internal deliberations to preserve confidentiality. Legal Basis: Executive privilege, based on separation of powers, protects certain communications. Example: Claiming a policy is under review when finalized to shield White House talks. Public Safety: Scenario: Officials may mislead to prevent panic during emergencies like terrorist threats. Legal Basis: Public safety authority (e.g., Stafford Act) justifies limited deception if it serves a compelling interest. Example: Downplaying a biological threat to avoid mass panic. Foreign Policy: Scenario: Officials may mislead about diplomatic strategies to protect U.S. interests. Legal Basis: Article II grants discretion in foreign affairs, barring fraud or international law violations. Example: Denying backchannel talks with a hostile nation to maintain leverage. Political Speech: Scenario: Officials may make false statements during campaigns or public debates. Legal Basis: First Amendment protects most false speech, per United States v. Alvarez (2012), unless it involves fraud or defamation. Example: Exaggerating policy achievements in a campaign speech. Caveats: Legal Limits: Lying is unprotected if it involves perjury (18 U.S.C. § 1621), fraud (18 U.S.C. § 1001), obstruction of justice (18 U.S.C. § 1503), or defamation. Investigation Risks: Misleading about witnesses or evidence must avoid violating due process (e.g., Brady violations) or obstructing justice. Accountability: Legal deception may lead to political consequences, public distrust, or impeachment for the President. Ethics: Misleading statements may violate federal ethics rules (5 C.F.R. § 2635).

Perhaps... but if 'they' did, it would be near impossible for them to build a fan-base or find support from any kind of a 'music industry.' The industry disappeared a LONG time ago, and the way kids find & socialize around music is entirely different today. The whole structure - financial -social - and media is worlds away from what it was when "Take On Me" took MTV & the world by storm. Bands today must gamble the best years of their lives in poverty for even the slightest chance of an inkling of success or get extremely lucky with a viral internet moment. About as much promise for them as playing the lottery.

Oddly enough - 'Nice' - was originally from the Latin, & used to describe someone who is 'ignorant,' & then even when it took root in the English speaking world, it meant 'foolish' or 'simple.' The video above is a fitting tribute to the word's Roman ancestry. Fowler's English Usage of 1926 reveals how the word met it's destiny; so nicely professed from the reflective lips of our day. >>"NICE: Too great a favorite with the ladies, who have charmed out of it all its individuality and converted it into a mere diffuser of vague and mild agreeableness." [Fowler]
