Few graphics convey the civilian toll of the so-called “War on Terror” better than this one. At least 38 million people have been forcibly displaced in the post-9/11 wars. This is roughly equivalent to the population of Canada. [1/3]

@NathanLands I grew up in the US and thought it was a civilized country until I started living in Egypt and found every toilet equipped with water for cleaning yourself. I can't even shit in the US now without feeling like the whole country is barbaric.

I'M SHOCKED. After living in Japan for over two years, I recently visited the USA with my wife. It made me realize that the USA is dysfunctional in so many ways and has such a low-quality standard across the board. Here are the things I noticed:

90% of all labour that powers the world economy—and 93% of all manufacturing labour—is performed by workers in the global South. Any political theory that does not foreground Southern workers as key agents of revolutionary change is simply missing the point.

@DinaAboughazala Elections involve two candidates that have gained corporate approval. When they don't have this, you get what happened to Sanders, i.e. they rig the system against the candidate. Its not different than how dictatorships like Egypt remove candidates, its just far better funded.

As a non-American, i can't understand why the US is unable to have other presidential candidates. In our part of the world, having the same faces over & over is attributed to the lack of an env conducive to political plurality. So what's America's reason? #Biden_and_Trump

@DinaAboughazala The US political system is a front for corporations. The role of politicians is to keep citizens unaware that they have no control, and to enact the policies that companies pay for, via lobbying. Trump is only mildly different in that he's like a corporation doing it directly.

Worth a read: great reporting from around the Nile Delta on how dire the water/agriculture situation has gotten. A reminder that Egypt's drastic need to export & earn USD comes at a huge price, draining its water, degrading its farmland.. synaps.network/en/post/Egypt-…

When we look back at this moment in history, let the role of the press be remembered. And let it be known that @WSJ's Editorial Board justified and excused war crimes, crimes against humanity, and, very possibly, genocide.

On living through genocide: "It’s tempting to express our resistance solely through criticism of those who are justifying mass murder and gaslighting us all. Yet our personal journeys are worth documenting," writes @weskandar open.substack.com/pub/weskandar/…
