@txchristabelle I prefer permanent standard time, the time zones need to be changed to better match the path of the sun

I don't watch golf and have no idea who these guys are but I'm assuming this is referring to an exhibition toddler tournament and not actual real life grown adult professional golfers?
Dustin Taylor ⌚️@DustinT_NBA

It’s wild to me that the golfer who consistently throws clubs, speeds off in anger around pedestrians when he loses, and steals fan’s phones is the media darling. I get why people don’t like Bryson, but if you like Rory you’re choosing to ignore a lot.

It's a Patagonian delight and kale salad day! I saw there was some rain in our north, so I'm counting that as a win over the smoke...

@KipHenley I will forever ask, if it is so obvious why was the penalty assessed after the round

Here Mr I Would Argue With A Wall. The video shows him partially hanging his backswing up anyway with the very grass he smashed down tramping around in there. He hits it even after bending the crap out of it. Just take the L man!
Riker2468@LeeH1948

@KipHenley There was an official on site, another player keeping his score card, another player observing. 👀 They saw no infraction, end of story. His swing plane is not definitive in the video, you can’t see the ball, dream on Bullwinkel 🫣

If DeChambeau loses by 1 stroke does Trump call the R and A to have the penalty reversed????

@LukeKerrDineen I really hate that "probably" a penalty could cost him the tournament

A few clear-eyed thoughts on the Bryson drama the morning after: ⚪️ By the literal letter of the law, it's probably a penalty. ⚪️ The context is the issue. Stuff like this and far worse go unpenalized on a daily basis. ⚪️ It makes giving Bryson a penalty here incredibly harsh and unfairly applied, because there's no consistency for when the hammer comes down. ⚪️ I suspect this is the R&A wanting to make an example of someone to clamp down on this tactic more generally, and encourage more self-policing. ⚪️ The problem is the tour's lack of enforcement undermines that immediately. Slow play, club throwing — these go essentially unchecked on a week-in, week-out basis. ⚪️ What we witnessed last night was the product of that: A certain behavior pushes the limit then quickly becomes the norm, which forces majors into having to make a controversial decision to uphold certain standards or else see them slip further. ⚪️ When it happens, the individual player understandably feels harshly done by, because in their minds, they're not doing anything different or unusual than everyone else does all the time.

@eighteenholes18 1) how do you know this strep was behind the ball 2) how do you know where the ball is 3) how does this improve his lie (see before and after photos) 4) why wasn't it seen at the time of the infraction

I’ve finally had a chance to look at it, and as we all know this is the key moment, when he steps on that patch of long grass Rule 8.1a tells us that a player is not allowed to “move, bend or break growing or attached natural objects” if doing so affects the five “Conditions Affecting the Stroke” (which are lie, area of the stance, relief area (when applicable), line of play, and THE AREA OF THE PLAYERS INTENDED SWING) Under Rule 8.1B, a player is allowed to “fairly take a stance by taking reasonable actions to get to the ball and take a stance. But when doing so the player (…) MUST USE THE ** LEAST INTRUSIVE ** COURSE OF ACTION to deal with the particular situation.” In my opinion (sitting 5000km away…) Bryson did not get to his ball by using the least intrusive course of action. He should have stepped over or around that patch rather than on it, and it was reasonable for him to do so. The INTENTION is not relevant in this situation. The General Penalty of two strokes is justified 🤓

@jamesbyrne89 And with that angle being 90 degrees from his swing you have no idea if he stepped in the line of the "ball"

@EricUNI I mean you can reasonably deduce that the ball is about an inch in front of where he puts his club down.

Blown away by the number of people on the timeline who see no problem with this. Anyone who has played competitive golf at any level, knows that you just can’t do this. You carefully walk around to get to your ball. It’s also *extremely* generous to say it’s unintentional.

@TheStroker83 You can't see, The ball His path Where he exactly stepped from the side view. If it was so straight forward then the walking referee would have called it

Bryson DeChambeau is a Lightning Rod, and this rules issue will be dubbed a controversy accordingly. But if you know golf, if you understand the rules, and if you still value integrity being at the center of the game, you know this was a simple and correct ruling. Cheers
