@EricNjiiru Iranian and US team and personnel have worked too hard to have to suffer consequences of tragic missteps of their leaders. Not to mention businesses and fans in host countries. No simple answer here.

If Iran 🇮🇷 is out of the FIFA World Cup 2026 that changes a number of scenarios including sanctions, playoff tournament, Iraq/UAE, Groups G and I : ▪️Firstly, earlier this morning FIFA president Gianni Infantino released a statement saying he's met with Trump about the fact that Iran has qualified for the World Cup and Trump “reiterated that the Iranian team is, of course, welcome to compete in the tournament in the United States”. Later in the afternoon, The Guardian reported that Iran sports minister Ahmad Donyamali said “under no circumstances can we participate in the World Cup”. Now, if Iran is out of the World Cup, Iraq 🇮🇶, who were the top ranked nation after Iran in Asia, would now go directly to the World Cup and not the playoffs. It would come as a quick blessing for Iraq who are currently facing difficulties in securing visas to travel to Mexico for the playoffs. ▪️UAE would be promoted to the World Cup playoffs set for the end of this month in Mexico where they would take on Bolivia/Suriname for a chance to qualify. ▪️Group G would now change to Belgium, Mexico, Iraq and New Zealand. ▪️UAE/Bolivia/Suriname would join group I that has France, Senegal and Norway. ▪️ Lastly, the 2026 tournament gives Asia eight slots, so FIFA would likely keep that number unchanged by selecting another AFC team. FIFA rules allow the governing body to appoint another association at its discretion if a qualified team withdraws. Sanctions: ▪️Iran 🇮🇷 will pay fines as article 6.2 of the regulations states: “If a participating association withdraws from the FIFA World Cup 2026 no later than 30 days before the first match of the final competition, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee shall impose a minimum fine of €275,000.” ▪️ The regulations add: “Participating associations that withdraw at any stage of the FIFA World Cup 2026 shall be required to reimburse all funds received from FIFA for the preparation of their national team, as well as any competition-related contributions received from FIFA” ▪️Those sanctions could also affect Iran’s participation in future tournaments. “These disciplinary sanctions may include the exclusion of the association concerned from a future FIFA competition or the replacement of that association by another. The FIFA Council or the relevant committee may decide, in particular, to replace that association with another.”

@NelsonHavi No. We wanted him to have prepared for the rain. Is that too much to ask?

Day 7 of posting Kenyan books on the timeline: For What are Butterflies Without Their Wings by Troy Onyango. "The whole country was like a hyena that was eating its own children and accusing them of smelling like goats." Arguably the BEST short-story collection from Kenya. ❤️

The passing of #railaodinga is very sad indeed. In all his complexity he represents a time when Kenya dreamed big dreams and its tortuous journey since. My thoughts with his family and all who knew him. Rest in peace Baba.

Nairobi South B. Ward MCA @Waithera_Chege 's motion this week to commemorate the late Pheroze Nowrojee (1941–2025) by naming a road after @PherozeLegacy was well received by @kilimanispeakers other community associations and residents. Let’s urge city leaders and residents to honour his impact by supporting this tribute for one of our greatest and most humble of sons. #CelebratingPheroze irunguhoughton.org/post/why-phero… or standardmedia.co.ke/opinion/articl… #StandardSettingKE

Random thought. If you were to commission a visual work of art that commemorated a moment of Kenyan history which moment would you choose? Which artist would you commission? Not wanting to start something but I might choose ‘The Shoe’.

It takes the right kind of partnerships to make the dream work, and this one with @NakestraMus was one of note. Partnering with us to ensure that this beautiful Yamaha G3 grand piano was one of our features on stage was a dream.

To plant two trees at Eastlands Library in remembrance of my late parents, Ngugi Wa Thiong’o and Nyambura Wa Ngugi meant a lot to me. A big thank you to all my friends and relatives and who stand by me, or as we say, hold me by the ribs. We are never alone - what a gift!
