@atrupar I saw him at the Hammersmith Odeon in November 1975 and was blown away. More than 50 years later, he's still a rock'n'roll force of nature.

I’ve seen Bruce Springsteen one other time, and I cannot believe how good he is tonight. Peak form. Life goals.

@KianpourWorld The caption is wrong, he was not the "only Western journalist in Iran".

CNN reporter has given an interview upon leaving Iran. Many in the diaspora were angry he was there. He’s lifting the veil and saying what he couldn’t say while in country: people were too afraid to talk to him, so he wasn’t able to get an accurate sense how real the support for the govt is - publicly confirming what we have been privately hearing. But this is why it matters being on the ground: you can FEEL what they can’t say. No matter how much the regime tries to control the narrative, energy doesn’t lie. theguardian.com/world/2026/mar…

@AdamParkhomenko @fpleitgenCNN What difference does it make if he's American (or not)? Al Jazeera has been broadcasting from Tehran snce the start. He's a good reporter, I don't think his nationality has anything to do with his work.

AFP is filing from Tehran - the images show people mourning the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and the aftermath of a strike on the Iranian capital. @AFP #Iran

Today is the kind of day where it’s very clear why we need foreign correspondents with extensive experience on the ground. The network coverage I’m watching is only illumining because of their boots on the ground in the region not the political talking heads.

Selina Cheng, chairperson of the Hong Kong Journalists Association, said that that media bosses in Hong Kong "increasingly see themselves as an extension of the government propaganda arm" and fear embarrassing those in power, writes @AFP 's @holmeschan_ . yahoo.com/news/articles/…

@MulhollandLynne @Birdyword In that case, from inside HK and as a former president, why doesn't the club change its mission statement to being a social club, instead of saying its role is to defend press freedom and speak out in support journalists? Wouldn't that be more realistic? fcchk.org/press-freedom/…

@Birdyword 1. It’s very easy to pontificate from outside HK 2. The FCC employs 100+ local staff whose livelihoods depend on the Club staying open 3. Don’t blame the President for lack of statements. She is working hard for members in an extremely nuanced & risky environment 4. See Point 1

I am so glad in retrospect that I never joined the Hong Kong Foreign Correspondents' Club, an organisation that has repeatedly disgraced itself over the past half a decade in exchange for a cheap bar.

👉Neither the Hong Kong Journalists Association (HKJA) nor the Foreign Correspondents’ Club (FCC) has posted statements on Monday’s jailing of media tycoon #JimmyLai. hongkongfp.com/2026/02/09/hon… When approached by HKFP after the Apple Daily founder was sentenced to 20 years behind bars, @fcchk President Morgan Davis said they had “no comment at this time,” whilst @HKJA_Official Chair Selina Cheng said she was “unable to speak freely about the sentencing.”

Not only was Jimmy Lai sentenced to 20 years, but other Apple Daily figures received high sentences, including editor-in-chief Ryan Law, executive editor-in-chief Lam Man-chung and editorial writer Fung Wai-kong who were given 10 years. hongkongfp.com/2026/02/09/bre…
