@NAGRC_DB Hands Over Site for the Teso Animal Breeding Demonstration Centre (TABDEC) @NAGRC_DB today officially handed over the site for the establishment of the Teso Animal Breeding Demonstration Centre (TABDEC) to contractors, marking the formal commencement of construction works in the Teso Sub-region. The handover ceremony was officiated by Mr. Ben Anyama @AnyamaBen1 , Chairman of the Board of Directors, @NAGRC_DB. The Centre will be developed across two sites: • Aoroko– approximately 61 acres • Amujeju – approximately 278 acres This significant investment reflects Government’s continued commitment to strengthening livestock breeding infrastructure and decentralizing services closer to farming communities. The project will deliver comprehensive facilities including gatehouses, administrative blocks, managers’ residences and staff quarters, a learning centre, AI training hostels, poultry rearing units and hatchery facilities, piggery units, fish ponds, valley tanks, animal feed production units, modern cattle sheds, and hay barns. These facilities will form an integrated breeding, training and demonstration hub supporting multiple livestock value chains. During the construction phase, the project is also expected to create employment opportunities for local communities, as contractors engage local labour and service providers, thereby contributing to economic activity within the sub-region. In line with @NAGRC_DB’s mandate to avail preferred improved livestock breeds to farmers, the Centre will provide access to superior animal genetics, Artificial Insemination (AI) training and services, and practical demonstrations aimed at increasing productivity, improving herd quality, and enhancing household incomes across the Bukedea Sub-region and the wider Teso area. The National Animal Genetic Resources Centre and Data Bank @NAGRC_DB is hosting a high level technical supervision and monitoring mission under the Uganda Climate Smart Agriculture Transformation Project @UCSATP at its facilities in Entebbe, focused on strengthening climate smart and resilient livestock systems. The mission includes guided inspections of the National Livestock Quarantine and Evaluation Centre, the Livestock Experimental Station, the National Bull Stud, the Semen Processing and Evaluation Centre, and the National Gene Bank, alongside engagements with @NAGRC_DB management and technical teams. Discussions are centred on proposed @UCSATP investments at @NAGRC_DB, including the rehabilitation and expansion of the National Bull Stud, restocking with proven climate smart dairy and beef sires, expansion and equipping of the semen processing laboratory, revamping of animal genetic resources centres as centres of excellence for breeding and production, establishment of assisted reproductive technologies infrastructure, and capacity building for community based Artificial Insemination technicians. The engagements are reviewing infrastructure designs, equipment specifications, Bills of Quantities, and environmental and social safeguards to ensure alignment with on ground realities and climate resilience objectives. @NAGRC_DB hosted a delegation from @FAO Uganda led by Dr. Willington, Country Team Lead for ECTAD (Emergency Centre for Transboundary Animal Diseases). The visit aimed to strengthen ongoing collaboration and explore strategies to boost delivery of Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ARTs) and related services to end users across Uganda. The @FAO team toured the @NAGRC_DB Bull Stud, a key national facility for livestock genetic improvement. Consensus was reached on the need to pursue international accreditation of the Bull Stud - a major step toward enabling Uganda to export high-quality genetic materials (semen & embryos) to other countries, especially in East and Central Africa. Hon. @DrRwamiramaBK, Minister of State for Animal Industry, has handed Cow Fertility Mineral Supplements to 70 of the 250 dairy & beef breeders in Central Uganda @NAGRC_DB headquarters in Entebbe. Funded under the Agriculture Value Chain Development Project @Avcp1_MAAIF and covering 17 districts in Central & Western Uganda, the supplements will: ✅  Boost cattle conception rates ✅  Drive adoption of improved dairy & beef breeds ✅  Reduce costly animal imports ✅  Enhance farmer incomes & strengthen national food security The Hon. On 1st July 2025, under the FAO–China–Uganda South-South Cooperation Project, @MAAIF_Uganda received nine Jianzhou Big-Eared goats (six does and three bucks). After a 21-day quarantine @NAGRC_DB and health certification by @MNaddec, the goats were declared disease-free. Today, the Hon. Minister of State for Animal Industry @DrRwamiramaBK, officially received the goats from @FAO and flagged them off to @NAGRC_DB for breeding & multiplication and some to @narouganda’s MBAZARDI for research. The handover took place at the @NAGRC_DB headquarters in Entebbe.
