Vice President Alex Ekwueme Received by Governor C.C. Onoh in Enugu, 1983
This historic photograph captures Alex Ekwueme (left), then Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, being received by Christian Chukwuma Onoh, Governor of Anambra State, in Enugu in 1983, during Nigeria's Second Republic.
At the time, Dr. Alex Ekwueme was serving as Vice President under President Shehu Shagari. Ekwueme held office from 1979 to 1983 and is widely remembered as one of the principal architects of Nigeria's presidential system of government.
A distinguished architect, academic, and politician, he played a significant role in promoting national unity and democratic governance during the Second Republic.
Receiving him was Dr. Christian Chukwuma Onoh, popularly known as C.C. Onoh, who served as the Governor of Anambra State from October 1983 until December 1983 under the Nigerian National Party. His tenure was cut short by the military coup of 31 December 1983, which brought an end to the Second Republic.
Dr. C.C. Onoh was also a prominent businessman, lawyer, and politician. Beyond politics, he is remembered as the father of Bianca Onoh, who later married Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, making Onoh the father-in-law of the former Biafran leader.
The photograph reflects a period when Enugu served as the capital of the old Anambra State before the creation of Enugu State in 1991. It also captures a significant moment in Nigeria's democratic history, just months before military rule returned following the coup led by Major General Muhammadu Buhari.
Today, both Alex Ekwueme and C.C. Onoh are remembered for their contributions to Nigeria's political development. Ekwueme is celebrated for his statesmanship and advocacy for democracy, while Onoh remains a notable figure in the political history of southeastern Nigeria.

@ToroMohims007 @IU_Wakilii yes, and I hope when power change hands, some people will not start shouting nepotism in the media, like nepotism, because we know some regions will be going from one median house to another shouting nepotism, one sided government and so on, hmm, time will tell
English

@IU_Wakilii When e reach your turn, ask them to wear babban riga. If the President wants them to wear adire, there is nothing you can do about it. Everyone must obey. Imran is very irrelevant and insignificant in Nigeria. Even in his own local government, he is more or less like an ant.
English

@IU_Wakilii Why do you fools like twisting stories just to get your mumu followers angry? Was it PBAT or the minister that proposed the change?
English

@IU_Wakilii Nigerian have entered one chance, you want to used your region cultural dress to replace national dress, hmmm, it's well with Nigerian, this time shall surely pass.
English

@channelstv if national anthem can be changed to on your mandate we shall stand, khakis can be changed, even you can change Nigerian name to oduduwa, Nigerian is tinubu property, what ever he wish, he will do, bt When power change hands, I hope some people will not be shouting in the media.
English

“It’s Adire... Let’s put our money back into the country.”
The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, confirms that the NYSC traditional khaki uniform will be replaced with Adire fabric as part of the new reforms.
