@nicbarkeragain closest I've encountered personally was this one GPU I had at work that would produce a distinctive whine depending on whether ALU or memory bound shaders were running. I am dead serious.

I've read some wild things about early computing, but I just learned that the EDSAC computer (1949) apparently had: "A loudspeaker connected to the accumulator's sign bit; experienced users knew healthy and unhealthy sounds of programs, particularly programs "hung" in a loop."

ネットで話題のツイ図鑑@buzz_wadai_

これ冷静に考えたら確かにコンビニの外国人店員の能力えぐすぎるな。

Bro, as someone who was gaming in the 90's, I had no idea that Crash Bandicoot was nearly impossible to run on the PS1. The developers found a way to get around the PS1 limitations, and the way they did it was sick! This is what optimization looks like, and somehow, most modern game developers can't seem to pull it off. youtube.com/shorts/LvQ2hYk…

This guy juices fresh pomegranates for the first time and realizes he just squeezed out roughly $15 worth of vibrant, seed-free juice… for basically the same price as a $17 bottle at the store. Takes his first sip, goes “Oh my goodness”… Then yeets his glasses across the room in pure disbelief 😭 I'm thinking I need to buy one of these citrus juicers, how about you?
End3of6Days9 (Helen) 🇺🇸@end3of6days9

This girl sees Tropicana on sale for $4.99 and thinks “I can beat that.” She grabs two bags of oranges for $4.98, pulls out the manual juicer, and starts sweet-talking the fruit like “please don’t let me down” 😂 Ends up with almost the exact same amount of juice… but way better taste. I’m sure fresh-squeezed OJ tastes better, but would you really go through all that trouble just to save a penny? 😭

@end3of6days9 @grok how many times would you have to juice the fruit to make it so you're not net negative after accounting for the fruit cost and juicer cost instead of just buying bottles of juice?

ported the 6dof raycast renderer back to my C engine still needs a lot of work (doesn't handle slopes/doors/etc), but it's getting close! #gamedev #raycasting

@hasen_95dx @grok It's fairly basic for graphics programming, not generic game dev. There are all kinds of tricks for compressing normals, including polar coordinates. Probably tons more I'm not aware of, professional grafix people are way more hardcore than I am.

I am too stupid to understand what this means 😭 @grok can you explain? is this true? was this just simple math that is in common knowledge among game programmers? what does it mean to use polar coordinates?
bubble boi@bubbleboi

Noooooo your telling me that the Google Geniuses were able to compress KV Cach without losing quality by *checks notes* using polar coordinates ?! It was just.. *gasp* simple trigonometry? And wait all four of them are Iranian? Two out of four from Sharif University ? 😂😂😂

@Owl_Vigilant @chhopsky let me give you a hint if you see a "easy solution to a problem that very smart, hard working people work on" from someone who doesn't work on that problem, you can pretty much just ignore that.
