Pattern recognition, forecasting, optimization are all being applied to the power system. But what’s unclear is how much electricity AI will require. Alp Kucukelbir explained it’s not like crypto — processing efficiency can decrease electricity usage. 👇 latitudemedia.com/news/will-ai-s…

Very excited to announce the new show we’ve been working on for the past few months. The Green Blueprint will feature stories of people building climate infrastructure/FOAK projects. It’s an extremely difficult job, but people are making it happen! And we’ve got the stories.

Fantastic reporting from @maevemallsup and @l_m_j_ on the Exowatt launch. The company claims to have built a groundbreaking energy tech for data centers — but it’s just a repackaging of old tech that struggled to compete. We dig into the claims: latitudemedia.com/news/the-troub…

Some news: after 18 years (‼️) hosting/making podcasts on the energy transition, this week marks my final episode as a host for a while. I'm stepping away from the mic to focus on growing other areas of @_LatitudeMedia. For my last episode of @CarbonCopy_Pod, I bring on some old friends. @JigarShahDC and @CleanGridView join me to riff on some top trends of 2024 so far: AI energy demand, grid constraints, geothermal, nuclear, America's green bank, and California's rooftop solar demise. It's a lively one. Since 2006, I've hosted four different shows on the business of clean energy. I've interviewed thousands of people on the front lines of deployment -- through many boom-bust cycles, explaining the realities of building solutions. Many listeners have been with me since the start. It's hard to express the joy and satisfaction I get from creating content that actually helps people doing the hard work on the ground. It is the most gratifying professional thing I've ever done. Thank you. Most importantly: The Carbon Copy feed won't go dark! We're working on a new concept (new name + new host) that we're launching in the fall. It will feature harrowing stories from people architecting the clean energy economy. 🏗️🌇🏭 We promise: this new show will be unlike any other podcast on this topic -- and we hope it'll be a critical tool for understanding the pathways to scale for a range of clean energy and climate technologies. In the meantime, keep listening to @CatalystPod and subscribe to Latitude Media's newsletter for our industry coverage and updates on the launch of our new show.

Chevron isn’t the only recent Supreme Court case that’s cut back regulators’ power. In the last four weeks alone, rulings in three other cases have inhibited agencies’ ability to pass rules and regulations to protect the environment. Buckle up y’all: latitudemedia.com/news/beyond-ch…

Just spent 17 days running the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. The trip is about 280 river miles, and it’s spectacular. But I was sad to see how the river and riverbed have changed over the past three years since I was last there. This ecosystem has a right to its water.

If you have time for one article this morning, make it @maevemallsup's deep dive on what caused the demise of CDR startup Running Tide. “It’s kind of a ‘come-to-Jesus’ moment" for the science and market of CDR, says one source.

I might be (am) biased, but I'd say that the electricity industry is no longer boring. If you want to make a real difference in getting to a cleaner future, we need lots of people who know how the system works to join the ranks!

This is a problem. Consumers take high level concepts and make investment decisions without knowing the details. We need clear, accessible information!

and that’s when I had to be like you know you still have to pay a utility bill right? Reader, he did not know. He did not know he doesn’t get to sell electricity all willy nilly whenever he wants. BUT! his brother in Arizona can get paid for production! Why can’t he???

Just had an Uber driver explain to me (after I told him I’ve researched utilities for almost a decade) why he would never buy an EV/home battery but would buy rooftop solar bc it can power his home and he wouldn’t have to pay for electricity….

The many folks on here who have both wittingly and unwittingly fed into a load growth panic that gas-addicted monopoly utility execs could have imagined only in their wildest dreams 12 months ago should really read this well-reported piece: latitudemedia.com/news/microsoft…
