Eritrea
@Erippl
Eritrean people enjoy both independence and dignity, as independence alone is not a measure of happiness.

Brothers, there is more than meets the eye, as they say. Rapprochement with Eritrea, however great it may sound to all of us in this region, is not a distinct possibility. But if that happens, it will definitely involve President Isaias being ‘advised’ to do a rapprochement with his southern and most consequential neighbor, @AbiyAhmedAli. But again, let’s cross the bridge when we come to it.

🚨 As I have been predicting for weeks, Washington has jumped into the hornets nest of Red Sea politics, holding secret meetings with Isaias in Cairo in a bid to increase its influence in the region by lifting sanctions on Eritrea. What will Eritrea do in return? How will Addis react? What does this mean for Trump's promise to restart GERD talks? How will this a US-Eritrea rapprochement affect the SAF and Sudan's war? And what will UAE and Saudi make of the US effort to enter Red Sea political debates, seemingly aligning itself against Ethiopia? Too many questions to answer. But what I can say is that the US is doing it all without a strategy with a used truck salesman at the helm. What could possibly go wrong?? wsj.com/world/africa/u…

My thanks to President Isaias Afwerki for accepting my letter of credence. Though 🇨🇦 and 🇪🇷 have differences, our discussion focused primarily on where our interests align. I shared my desire for effective bilateral relations, centred on mutually beneficial partnerships.

I’ve been tracking this account for years, and the pattern is impossible to ignore. This individual only surfaces on X when the Eritrean national team travels abroad. A few years back, I called out his connection to past player defections, and his only response was to block me.

🇪🇷🇪🇷 Eritrea: Over 70% of Eritreans Don’t Have A Bank Account. A report published on March 30, 2026, by The Fintech Times highlighted that Eritrea’s financial system remains highly centralized and underdeveloped, with over 70% of the population still unbanked. The sector is dominated by a handful of state-owned banks, led by the Commercial Bank of Eritrea which controls the majority of assets, while the Bank of Eritrea acts as the central authority; private banking is not permitted, resulting in minimal competition and innovation. There are no ATMs in the country, online banking is unavailable, and digital financial services including mobile money remain extremely limited, leaving most transactions cash-based and informal. This low level of financial inclusion, among the widest gaps in Africa, is compounded by a fixed exchange rate, stringent capital controls, foreign exchange shortages, and an underdeveloped digital infrastructure, all of which continue to constrain access to credit—particularly for small and medium enterprises—despite the lifting of sanctions in 2018 and the economy’s reliance on mining exports and diaspora remittances. thefintechtimes.com/eritreas-finte…

When I say 💩 is about to hit the fan, an enormous mound of fecal matter is about to clash with a tribune engine, and the perpetrators have no f— idea what’s going to happen. The following clowns who can be referred to as the “Sanctioned13” have an unprecedented legal battle they’re all fighting, and let’s just say… they don’t have enough wipes or toilet paper to clean up the mess. 😂 @TsehayeAwet, @realyonaswoldu, @CaptnEritrea, @ERISAT3 (Henok Gebrekidan), Illata Abraha, @Ygebre1, @EsayasT2, and several others… I’ll start with a few posts:

Eritrean national football team's squad for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers relies heavily on diaspora players who live outside Eritrea and hold second or dual citizenship. Home-based players often defect and seek political asylum abroad during away matches—a pattern linked to the country's indefinite national/military service policies, with over 60 defections since 2009. Diaspora players are now being actively called up as a “fix” for the team. Nearly the entire home-based national team had previously fled, forcing the federation to turn to foreign-based players. Only a small number of local (home-based) players are selected. Eritrea is playing today Eswatini in Morocco today. G00D LUCK. The full roster below not confirmed

I shake my head at Eritrean diaspora which sings the praises of dictator Isaias. If he's so great, why don't they go home to his "paradise" instead of staying in corrupt West? Of course, in Eritrea, they couldn't insult people on X due to no internet. Isn't hypocrisy wonderful?!
