Just finished a major milestone for #GridwareClusterScheduler v9.0.2. Automatic Sessions in combination with new #ThreadPool's will allow bigger #HPC clusters, more active users as well as jobs in the system without performance penalty. #AltairGridEngine - we are coming... ;-)

Since I personally sharpened this thing as-if it was a giant draw-knife, it doesn’t really care what you cut with it. Paper, plastic, leather, wood, soft metals … it’s like the honey badger of paper cutters, brought back from the brink of landfill, I rebuilt it strong 💪

@ErnstBablick We routinely hit over 100k scheduled jobs with our cluster. We have had to root out every possible source of performance degradation, which has led to some very fancy tooling

Hidden in the Sun #GridEngine test-suite is a utility NOT installed by default named qevent which allows you to tap into cluster job events. I used this to create a new cluster utility that can wait for a job on the cluster to finish before executing a command

@freebsdfrau Respect! I often thought about it but never did it. Do you have an overview of the additional time this would take for this project? (In the end, time was always the reason for me to use power tools after all.)

I am re-doing my stairs and challenging myself to do it 100% with hand tools only. No power tools. Zero electricity except the overhead lights

@ErnstBablick This is huge! This could be a game changer, for all involved, then. So, pray tell, I thought UGE was closed source, how did you (or anyone) get a copy of UGE to fork?

@freebsdfrau We do not have the complete source code, but those things where Univa was required to make them public due to SISSL. We are 3 eng so far, all were working for Univa/Altair and currently we are implementing the missing things, but better. If you are interested then let us know.

@freebsdfrau #OpenClusterScheduler is a fork of the Univa #GridEngine. We are heavily modifying it to make it faster/more reliable and future proof. The user interface and public APIs remain compatible. Code is available on Github (github.com/hpc-gridware). We also provide commercial support.
