Happy heavenly birthday to my cousin Nick. He would've been 46. He was the person who got me into hockey, he was an unabashed feminist and supporter of women (listen to this clip), and someone who loved the game so much it killed him.
He was the captain of Merrimack and the chefs at the dining hall at St Sebastians high school spoke of how kind he was. From my assessment of his play in retrospect, he was more skilled and had better hands than he ever knew. But he saw a gateway to the show through his fists. He was an extremely tender and thoughtful person, but he was constantly trying to make himself useful. It was so confusing, he would offer to fight anyone who did me wrong. By the end, he thought that was all he was good for because the game made him believe that.
We donated his brain to CTE research, as he requested bu.edu/articles/2024/…

My cousin Nick passed away yesterday. He was a fighter in his hockey career and a lover in his life. He shouldn't have had to struggle like he did without support after his career. I would like to spend some time looking into how I can help assist in the new positive efforts pro hockey alum are making to connect and help each other

Each other laugh, even when we were stressed out. I honestly, don't know how he died. His sister never answered me when I asked when it first happened. Idk if she will answer me now. Idk if I truly want to know. I just know I will never forget him🖤

Today is my ex's birthday. He passed away 3ish years ago. And I've been thinking of him lately (I unfortunately forgot his bday was coming up). I miss that man so much. And I still carry guilt about not being available to talk to him as often as he wanted....
