Islamic Architecture Around the World. Which masterpiece captures your heart the most?

The saree was banned. The poem was banned. She wore the saree and sang the poem to 50,000 people anyway. Iqbal Bano. Born Delhi 1935. Classical training under Ustad Chaand Khan of the Delhi gharana. One of Pakistan's most celebrated ghazal singers. Pride of Performance Award 1974. Zia ul-Haq banned sarees from public venues as un-Islamic. Banned Faiz Ahmad Faiz's poetry from state television and radio. Banned Hum Dekhenge entirely. Faiz died November 1984. A year later on February 13, 1986 Lahore held a concert in his memory at Alhamra Arts Council. Iqbal Bano arrived in a black silk saree. She stepped to the microphone. Hum Dekhenge. For nearly an hour she sang Faiz's poem about the day when thrones of the powerful would fall and the oppressed would rise. The 50,000 people in the hall and on The Mall outside chanted Inqilaab Zindabad in response. Zia's riot police watched from the edges. They did not move. One technician pressed record. That audio recording is all that survived. No video exists. After that night Zia banned her from live performance and television. She kept singing. In private homes. In recordings. For those who came to find her. She died April 21, 2009 in Lahore. At 74. Faiz gave her the words. She gave them to the people. In a black saree a dictator could not forget. Iqbal Bano. Pakistan Zindabad. 🇵🇰

Now this is intriguing... based on the writings of a 17th c. VOC official, Kruijtzer contends that the majority of Muslims in the Deccan must have been Shi'ite before the Mughal conquests. As in the north, Hindus also participated liberally in Muharram festivities.

Another shocking incident from Lahore's Manawan area. A woman was allegedly harassed in broad daylight after being spotted alone in a street. How long will women continue to live in fear? No woman should have to worry about her safety simply for stepping outside. The suspect must be identified and arrested immediately. Enough is enough. @OfficialDPRPP @AzmaBokhariPMLN

On Qadar and free will, Ibn Rushd has an original theory which he explains in Manhj al-Adala. Human agency is real, but it exists within a wider network of causes that governs the universe. He cites Surah Ar-Ra'd 11 "For him [man] are successive forces"

"There I was, an 18-year-old on my first day of university, crying on my bed. I could not understand what I had done to deserve such hatred." Tali Smus reveals how she has been subjected to a torrent of abuse because of her views on Israel ⬇️ telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/07/1…
