For those who aren’t too familiar with this stuff, here’s some context: Asano isn’t talking about generative AI being used to create drawings. He’s talking about AI-assisted tools for asset placement and scene building in Unreal Engine. For his manga, Asano builds entire 3D environments himself, sometimes even creating whole cities. He uses assets that he either makes himself or buys, then places them throughout the environment to build the scenes and backgrounds he needs for his work. The problem is that when you’re building an entire city, manually placing thousands of trees, buildings, streetlights, props, and other objects one by one can take an insane amount of time. Recently, AI-assisted tools have started appearing for Unreal Engine that can automate part of this process. Instead of manually placing every single asset yourself, these tools can use the assets you already have in your library and help arrange them automatically, allowing you to create scene layouts much faster. So in this specific case, the AI isn’t generating drawings or creating the assets for him. It’s mainly being used to automate asset placement and speed up a repetitive part of the 3D workflow.
