Unfortunately, Germany still lacks a civilisational confidence. That would've been fine if Germany had the influence and impact of Liechtenstein, but they don't - they are the largest economy in Europe and an industrial powerhouse. What they do and say goes for the entire continent, it's not confined to their own national borders. When Germany went anti-nuclear and switched to energy dependence on Russia, it impacted not just Germany, but all of Europe. When Merkel decided to implement poorly conceived immigration policies in the 2010s, it didn't impact just Germany, it impacted all of Europe. All of these strategic mistakes are rooted in the said lack of civilisational confidence. Say what you will about the French - and despite their long list of own strategic mistakes - but they do have a settled, even stubborn conviction that France has a distinct role to play in the world stage, a culture worth defending, and a will of its own that need not be validated by others. Germany has rebuilt almost everything since 1945 - its economy, its institutions, its democracy - but not this. What it has not rebuilt is a settled sense of itself as a legitimate actor in history, rather than a managed risk within it. The consequence is a kind of structural dependency: not military dependency alone, but psychological dependency. Germany still reaches for American approval the way a country does when it does not yet trust its own judgment. It outsources the hardest strategic questions not merely because it lacks the tools, but because it lacks the confidence to ask them in its own name. I understand where this is coming from, but now is not the time to dwell on this. The difficult times are here and the difficult decisions need to be made. We can't keep outsourcing this to others, like we outsourced our energy independence (to Russia), defence (to the U.S.), and industry (to China).

Borisov was a bodyguard and security company owner at the time. “EU” - Bulgaria joined the EU on January 1, 2007. Borisov was mayor of Sofia. The process was started under Kostov and concluded under Simeon II. “Euro” - Bulgaria adopted the euro on January 1, 2026. The fiscal discipline that made it possible was Asen Vassilev’s work as Finance Minister, not Borisov’s. “Pro-Ukraine” - It was Kiril Petkov’s government that secretly supplied a THIRD of Ukraine’s ammunition needs and 40% of its diesel fuel in the critical early months of the war. Borisov’s foot never touched Kyiv soil! “Pro-Kosovo” and “Schengen” - Under Borisov, Bulgaria was repeatedly rejected from Schengen due to corruption concerns. Radev and Borisov are two sides of the same rotten coin. One plays the silent Russophile. The other plays the pro-European while building pipelines for Putin and stealing billions from EU funds. Your take is shit. Borisov has always been lowkey pro-Russian oligarch thug, he’s just trying to sit on two chairs at once. He’s a Bulgarian Orban - entrenched himself and his oligarch buddies and leeched off the state. He’s the reason why that scumbag Radev is even a contender now. He built Russian pipelines during his tenure and sucked up to Merkel to stay in power. He’s didn’t get us into NATO, the EU, Schengen nor the eurozone. It’s just extremely strange that the Vice President of the United States is giving a campaign speech in a foreign country at all, much less that he’s specifically urging the re-election of the pro-Russian anti-western party rather than the reverse.
