@poppylikecats @Peko_girlboss I love what Wilting Y did to Pidgeot. It gets No Guard without the Mega now and has a special attacking stat spread, so it's effectively a mini Mega Pidgeot you can get pretty early.

@Peko_girlboss useful in romhack is a category in my mind and that shit is broken as fuck bc what do you mean mantine is an e4 mon in ren plat, or kingler is steel/water with shell armor in vin white or you should use honey for tyrogue and castform in ancestral x... etc etc

It’s hard to truly come up with a forgettable pokemon, since there’s so many things that make one memorable Like, I made a list of stuff that makes a Pokemon “memorable” so we just gotta find something with none of these to get a truly unmemorable pokemon

@saragossaGD Most of these make sense to me, but I can't see why you have starred aliens so high up. Barrier feels poorly designed compared to later Aku shields, and Warp is a fun gimmick, but not really exclusive to them anymore.

saw mutual do this so i made my own version. mainly on just how well the traits are designed by what purpose they are supposed to do

@kitsuneredFES People act like Floatzel is on everyone's team, but I've never used it. I've used Empoleon, Gyarados, and Vaporeon, but never Floatzel.

@kishinates This is part of why I feel like gen 3 did its new dex better than gen 5. Still a mostly new dex, but it doesn't cut itself off completely from older gens, and lets formerly-late game species like Skarmory be found earlier to make them feel new as well.

someone made a good point and that i think found the root of my frustration, and it's not the existence of old gen pokemon in new titles at all, but the ratio of old to new mons.

@Shyguymask99 Soundgator has good UI sounds, and Zapsplat has some good object and environment sounds. Those two sites have provided most of the sounds I used in Peng Wars.

Where do game devs get royalty free sound effects? Most sounds on Freesound dot org suck and I'm going crazy

NEW ARBITRARY CODE EXECUTION DISCOVERED IN SMB1: If you press the "A" button you will overload the game's memory, forcing it to perform the "jump" instruction which makes Mario move up several pixels vertically. This is huge, because it makes the game much faster and easier.

@TylerGlaiel I remember this piece showed up in Godel, Escher, Bach, and it was illustrative there. Like a formal system, it's impossible for this painting to be both complete and have self-consistent perspective.

I watched the 3b1b video about this Escher drawing and I think its incredible that he was able to do this by hand but this piece also just kinda annoys me cause I don't think the illusion actually works well without the middle part that explains what's happening

@TylerGlaiel I feel like Dragon Quest would also be up there. D&D made RPGs into a distinct genre, but Dragon Quest pioneered the distinct JRPG subgenre.

@thegrayfruit I still need to finish Crystalis. I had found out about it from a Syd Lexia article, and it's a cool game with very good graphics for the time, though finding out how to progress is cryptic.

this is an awesome idea I just had to try it out. actually arranged them in order of release like UFO 50 and tried to capture a similar vibe/structure to UFO 50's list and variety.

@NormBreaker3 I remember the slowness of Unity drove me crazy when I first started using it. I later used Game Maker, and then Godot, because they were so much faster to use to make quick changes and test them.

@Bulbagarden I miss the days when Sandshrew could pick up a 100 BP Dig before the second gym.

Most Pokémon with a decently-powered STAB move will perform well in Kanto. The ones you should be more circumspect about picking up are those with weak moves or who lack STAB; Ekans and Sandshrew are supremely cool but they'll spend many turns in battle with moves like these:

Some folks soon to play FRLG for the first time seem worried about using Pokémon with stats that don't match well with their type's damage category, but it's easy to over-index on this. Kingler, for example, is still going to decimate late-game Rock and Ground-types with Surf!
