Another important component is culture and traditional knowledge. While most restoration efforts often focus on applications rooted in Western science, increasingly we are finding that local community practices and knowledge systems improve conservation/restoration outcomes.

By taking a holistic approach to wetland restoration – one that integrates both ecology and culture – we are better able to generate outcomes that are successful, sustainable, and inclusive.
