@dev_trivedi2011 @sage_stage Admin keeps pushing us to get rid of homework. The argument is that homework puts poor kids at a disadvantage because many have to work to help family. But it all really comes back to their most important directive. The only thing they care about. Pass everyone!

@dev_trivedi2011 @sage_stage It was the phones. The chromebooks are useless. They can’t do multimedia. All they can do is allow kids to access the web and play games. The issue is that with their computers open, I can’t see their screens. So they have multiple tabs open and watch videos all period

@EtherealDacre @sage_stage good... A lot of schools pushed 1:1 devices thinking it would help learning, but many teachers say the opposite. In your class, what causes more distraction - Chromebooks or phones...?

@sage_stage Until we commit to no screens in the classrooms, our students will suffer! Our feckless educational leadership has ignored the state mandates because they “don’t believe in banning phones.” All we do is pretend we are doing good work.

@dev_trivedi2011 @sage_stage the other problem is the lack of educational leadership. We are so proud of 1:1 chromebooks. In my classes, kids don’t care about phone bans cause they open their computers and watch YouTube and play games All Day Long! The chromebooks do more to hinder learning than they help!

@EtherealDacre @sage_stage That authenticity problem seems to be hitting a lot of teachers now. If homework can’t really show learning anymore, what has become the most reliable signal for you that a student actually understands the material?

@EtherealDacre @sage_stage My daughter’s teachers are only grading essays organized, written and revised in notebooks that stay in the classroom. Finally getting back to SRSD.

@dev_trivedi2011 @sage_stage Student skills have noticeably declined over the past ten years but that is more about the screens than the presence of homework. This was about authenticity of the work. I don’t understand how any teacher can still give points for homework. It’s all done on AI

@EtherealDacre @sage_stage That’s a bold shift - removing homework completely. When everything moved to in-class work and tests, did the quality of student understanding actually improve or just the authenticity of the work?

@EtherealDacre Not a bad rule, but that is not allowed in our district. They want the graduation rate

@razorgator52 @Hoopss Family emergencies you can call the school. The counselor will pull the kid from class and sit them down in private to help them take in the news. This is better than getting a text in class

These two hotel workers decided to put their phone into the elevator, they were going to race it to the bottom. So they prop the phone against the wall of the elevator and pushed the ground floor button and ran for the stairs. What makes this peculiar is when the elevator made it to the ground floor first, the door kept closing and opening as if someone was there, if you listen you can even hear a woman’s voice say “mmm.” I know some may say this could be an example of the paranormal, but could there be a reasonable explanation for this?
