The situation for Palestinians in Gaza is beyond description, beyond atrocious & beyond inhumane.
A policy of siege & starvation makes a mockery of international law. The blockade against humanitarian aid must end immediately.
This is a moment for moral clarity & action.

As the occupying power, Israel has unequivocal obligations under international law – including international humanitarian law and international human rights law.
Yet currently no humanitarian supplies can enter Gaza.
Meanwhile, at the crossing points, food, medicine and shelter supplies are piling up, and vital equipment is stuck.
Unimpeded humanitarian access must be guaranteed.
And humanitarian personnel must be given the protection that they are accorded under international law.

I heard the voice of one of those team members who was killed. His phone was found with his body and he recorded the whole event. His last words before being shot: 'Forgive me, mom. I just wanted to help people. I wanted to save lives.' And then he was killed. So you can imagine the 15 team members. What did they go through. It was an episode that's heartbreaking." Adds that victims were shot from "very close range."

Earlier today, news arrived that my position as a history professor for US Army CGSC has been eliminated in accordance with DOD cuts. There is no chance of reassignment, and the entire Fort Belvoir campus will be stood down.

I am shocked by the attack by the Israeli army on a medical and emergency convoy on 23 March resulting in the killing of 15 medical personnel and humanitarian workers in Gaza.
Medical personnel and humanitarian and emergency workers must be protected by all at all times.
