"Languages do not matter anymore because AI coding agents can write any language." Well, true until you get to maintenance and performance. #Maintenance: verbose languages are actually better so it is easier for humans to review what AI generated, especially the business logic parts. #Performance: language runtimes still matter if you care about user experience, carbon footprint, and cost.

Fresh #gRPC benchmarks just dropped (Apr 2026) and the results are 🌶️ # 1 CPU: #Rust Tonic dominates at 102K req/s using just 15 MiB RAM # 2-4 CPUs: #Java Vert.x takes the crown at 153K req/s... but needs 305 MiB to do it Meanwhile Rust Thruster does 139K req/s on 12 MiB. That's 25x less memory than Java. #dotNET quietly sitting at #4-#8 across all configs. No hype, just solid numbers. The boring enterprise choice... that keeps winning. Scala Pekko & Akka? Surprise top-5 finishers at 3-4 CPUs. JVM tuning is real. Now let's talk about the bottom of the chart: - #Python: 4,492 req/s (1 CPU) - #Node: 12,471 req/s (1 CPU) That's 23x slower than Rust. Node doesn't even scale past 1 CPU — 16K req/s whether you give it 1 or 4 cores 💀 But sure, "developer productivity" even when it is AI generating code these days...

Satya Nadela is basically describing the death of the traditional SaaS model. Explains the AI agentic future, and where the "value" lives. Because business logic is moving from the software application to the AI agents. Currently, you buy software for its specific features and rules. Nadella argues that in the future, software apps will essentially become dumb databases ("CRUD") or simple tools. The AI Agent will hold all the intelligence, orchestration, and reasoning, simply updating the databases as needed. The software becomes a commodity; the AI becomes the "brain" and the worker. ----- Video from Bg2 Pod Youtube Channel (link in comment)

2026 will be the year of AI on the JVM, so there is no better time to learn Embabel. It's not just another agent framework on the JVM, it is the most sophisticated, enterprise-grade way to deliver production agents that actually work. @springrod recently blogged about the new RAG approach: @springrod/embabel-year-end-update-building-the-best-agent-framework-25ed98728e79" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">medium.com/@springrod/emb… I also recently blogged about how to do domain-driven agent workflows: builder.aws.com/content/36t4qs… And we walked through all of this in a recent livestream: youtube.com/watch?v=Cn6F4d… Have fun learning and here's to an exciting 2026!

@ramtinabadi On the server side, I'm struggling with the problem that Dart is single-threaded. It uses only 1 cpu and it freezes the application. The same app with Java for example just finish with no problems.

Dart is a lovely language (as much as an OOP can get) and I really enjoy using it But there is a clear gap between the performance of Dart and that of Go or Java

@springrod Sometimes you leave java because its too verbose. And then you come back to java because you miss its verbosity. The truth is that readability is very important.

Please, please use var in new Java apps, unless you really really need the type to be different (e.g. an interface vs particular class). - var is more readable - you can often skip an import

Will AI replace developers? Probably not anytime soon. The cost of training new models grows exponentially as they get more capable, and we may be reaching practical and economic limits. To train GPT‑5 already required massive computing resources, and the next step could cost ten or even a hundred times more. At some point, it becomes unsustainable. To go further, we’ll likely need something beyond current LLM technology. Here is a graph of the cost vs performance of current LLMs. Note that the x-axis with the cost is on a logarithmic scale. For now, I think developers are safe. Many other jobs will be automated long before ours, and we’ll probably be the ones creating that automation. What are your thoughts?
