In February 2025, the African Union (AU) Assembly adopted CEVAWG. The Initiative for Strategic Litigation in Africa (ISLA), in partnership with Fòs Feminista and Akina Mama wa Afrika, undertook a comprehensive legal analysis of the Convention due to concerns about its alignment with international human rights law standards and treaty-making practice. CREAW took part in the engagement with diverse stakeholders, including groups that shared our concerns and others who supported ratification. CREAW joined Nairobi County and partners in a march at Riruta to mark the 16 Days of Activism, amplifying this year’s call to end digital violence against women and girls. Through the SHESOARS program, the event spotlighted the link between SRHR education, digital safety, and the prevention of gender-based violence online and offline. Beyond awareness, CREAW offered legal aid and guidance on GBV Support, while empowering adolescents with the knowledge, digital literacy, and resources they need to safeguard their health, rights, and safety in an increasingly digital world. #16DaysOfActivism #EndDigitalViolence

We hope that these reflections remind us that ethical leadership and the promotion of human dignity cannot be the responsibility of the Judiciary alone. It is a collective duty that requires active participation from every stakeholder. Together, through dialogue, reflection and decisive action, we can create a culture of ethical leadership that strengthens constitutionalism and safeguards human dignity for all Kenyans. In a heroic move, Gisele Pelicot fought to make public the videos of her unconscious rapes at the hands of over 50 men and won. She wanted the public “to look rape straight in the eyes.” Shame, she said, must change sides —from the victims to the perpetrators. Police found more than 20,000 videos and photographs of Gisele drugged and being raped by various men on her husband’s devices in a folder titled “Abuse.” On Friday, the judge complied with Gisele’s demand and showed the evidence “necessary for the manifestation of the truth.” 12 rape videos and 10 photos were shown over the courtroom’s three flat screens and projected into the overflow room for members of the public while the perpetrators in the videos sat in shame watching their own despicable criminal acts being exposed.

Prevention strategies, including secondary prevention, in addition to response services, are important access points in furthering access to justice. It was indeed a pleasure to showcase the services we offer to survivors. @CREAWKenya
